“Where were you when you hit 100 miles on your Mantis? I felt like I wanted to wait until I had a chance to really ride and experience as many aspects of the scooter, performance and my own feelings about it before posting my review. So here goes...
I own another scooter, brand not important, it's a commuter class ride based on the specs;
20 mph top speed, range around 15-20 mi.
After a bit, I was looking for a scooter that moved me into the performance class, and a ride that both gave me more power, more torque/acceleration and better suspension.
I did over a month of research, emailed and posted a ton to gain as much insight and info as I could. The truth is, no matter what scooter you look for and research, you're going to find positive and negative reviews and insights. The ordering process and my customer experience was amazing for starters. I actually ordered a Horizon to begin with, and then exchanged it for the Mantis. So let's begin with simply saying that customer service was really understanding and jumped on the task of helping me work out the exchange...simply huge!
So Mantis arrived and as mentioned, I've waited for a bit to post my review.
I'm 100 mi in and I'm am beyond happy and impressed with everything about it.
It's the best riding scooter I've been on. The quality of the build and parts are top notch, and as other reviews have mentioned the styling is really sleek and clean.
The components are solid, nothing feels cheap, and though I have the base model, and not a mini motor display, I'm really happy with the set up. 100 miles in, and on various terrain and rigorous riding, I've experienced no issues with stem wobbles or any other technical issues. I'm not a little man, weigh 200 lbs and find the scooter deals with hills and top speed like I'm closer to 150 lbs. Top speed for me levels out around 38-40 depending on charge, and even at lower capacity there is little to no decrease in power or power or performance....awesome!
The bottom line is simple;
There is no better option out there in the price range if you're looking to jump into the top tier performance class of scooters. You can pay a lot more for similar scooters that won't perform better and honestly will leave you with less support and solutions when and if you do need it along the way. At 110 miles in, I haven't. This scooter has exceeded my expectations and continues to impress me. I absolutely love riding my Mantis, and it is both my commuter option, and really fits that criteria. It's also pure fun, to say the least, and is everything you would want for a weekend ride or strictly your go to for just that. If you're looking for a perfect cross over duel function scooter, the Mantis is it. STOP LOOKING!”
“I've been waiting for this to arrive (I pre ordered it) and it is absolutely worth the wait. Hands down the best scooter I've ever had. This is my 4th one. So much power I promise you will not be disappointed. Wonderful company to work it. A+ All Around!!”
“I have written a few electric scooters before but I was not prepared for this monster LOL I have been shredding up the bike paths and making cars speed up to keep alongside me wondering what this is I have shared the information as to where I got it and how much I paid and so far about seven of my friends are getting it for Christmas this thing is a blast despite what you may hear I somehow on flatland managed to hit 41 mph and I recommend strongly getting protective gear and a closed helmet I put it through the test of riding around Manhattan and it handled without a problem the only sad part is that I kept finding myself flying by so many subpar electric scooters but that's not my problem I love this thing”
“This is my second review my first one was two and a half months ago and I was in love. I've got 600 miles on my mantis now and it seems like everything is falling apart. I've never taking it off the sidewalk or the street, and somehow my hinge has snapped in half. I finally got the parts to fix it and finally spoke to Jay the mechanic at fluidfreeride who was awesome. The problem started when I realized there was absolutely no way to get the hinge back into the black pipe without hitting it with a hammer which would cause the circle for the other pin to oblong. (see pics) unless the park is too large there really is no way to put it back in. You have to pound the old one out with a hammer, which means the other one somehow we'll have to be pounded back in which is where I'm stuck at now. The Dual single switch stopped working the day that the hinge broke. Which can be dangerous if you don't take it back out of dual mode it will sporadically decide to start working 15 minutes later. The barrel adjuster on the rear brakes is shot and needs to be adjusted about every 10 minutes or you will have no grip on the rear brakes. Just to name a few things...... I am very mechanically inclined but I do not own a machine shop which seems like some of my issues would better be addressed there. I've had it three and a half months I do not want my money back but I have asked for a replacement. It's too much for a person to fix, in the car world it would be considered a lemon. I will update if anything changes as of now it just sits here taken apart. The hinge doesn't fit back in the neck and the little pin that was sent to me doesn't even fit in the hole in the hinge??????”
Hi William - We are very sorry that you are having a bad experience. I just checked and it seems your issues are going to be addressed by phone next week. Rest assured we will do everything we can to get you up and scooting again soon. Thank you for understanding and your honest review.
“After testing and reviewing more than 30 different electric scooters (including the Kaabo Mantis), I can confidently say, it's the best electric scooter I ever tried. The hydraulic brakes are extremely smooth, the suspension is next-level and the sheer acceleration and speed is beyond thrilling. If you're in the market for a high-end electric scooter, I highly recommend the Mantis.”
“I have owned a Kaabo Mantis scooter (sold by Fluidfreeride) since December of 2019 and have put about 700 miles on the scooter since. I live in central Phoenix and use it mostly for all commutes within a 3 mile radius which include grocery runs, dropping kids off at school, commuting to work, going to the farmers market, coffee shops, etc. Rather than write a review shortly after receiving the scooter, I wanted to have a year of use before writing a review because after 1 year it is easier to reflect on everything from customer service to the longterm performance of the product. Before buying this scooter, the only electric scooters I have owned are the two $150 Razors that my young kids use. Below, are my unbiased impressions of living with the Kaabo Mantis sold by Fluidfreeride:
I wanted to buy a scooter with a suspension because after having ridden Motorcycles for 20 years I know how important a good suspension is, especially when speed, small tires and not the best roads come together. I also wanted to have a scooter with a range of at least 30 miles and plenty of torque to get me up hills. On all these points the Kaabo Mantis delivers - when it works.
Where the Mantis and, especially the Kaabo distributor Fluidfreeride fall short, is customer service and attention to detail. Lets start with attention to detail. The main components like the battery, brakes and suspension have, so far, been trouble free and have performed well. The secondary components like the charge plug used to recharge the scooter, the post that the handlebars are attached to or the tires are sub par. The post has way too much flex in it so you become reluctant to use the full power of the scooter because there is so much flex in the stem. (The picture below shows the design problem. The steel shackle which keeps the stem from breaking away goes over just a small 3mm distance securing the bottom part of the scooter with the stem). It really feels like the whole stem will break off the base of the scooter under full acceleration (I will link a Youtube video that shows this). In fact, I have heard that there have been instances of the stem breaking and people getting seriously hurt as a result of a broken stem.
However, it is the electrical plug that will keep you from using your scooter within a year of Kaabo ownership-at which point the company will do NOTHING to help you since your warranty is only 6 months. Infact, the electrical plugs are the same ones used in my kids $150 Razrs. In my case, the plug is faulty and no longer makes a connection with the male plug. The plug is situated in a part of the scooter that is inaccessible without specialized tools (see picture) so it is very difficult to just unscrew the plug and replace it with a new one. Even though the scooter was turned off I got electrocuted while trying to change out the plug. and it hurt like hell! I have an attorney friend looking into this at the moment. When I contacted Fluidfreeride who, by the way, can only be contacted via email, they said I should just send it in for $250 plus parts and labor, each way or try to replace the plug myself. So, after 1 year the scooter will not charge and you can expect to spend hundreds of dollars on shipping plus parts, so you can use your scooter again. Think about that for a second. The distributor of your two thousand three hundred dollar scooter tells you after, not even, one year of ownership: just replace the plug under risk of electrocution or just send it in to us for $500 dollars. In my eyes that is totally unacceptable.
The last item that is problematic are the tires. They are very prone to punctures. I only use the scooter on city streets but still have had to replace at least 5 tubes over the last 700 miles. Small prickers that don't seem to affect quality mountain bike tires will puncture these tires. I have looked high and low but there is no company that makes tires in this particular size so you have to be prepared to swap the tubes on a regular basis, which is not easy unless you are mechanically inclined.
It is easy to become a distributor for a product that another company produces but, to stand behind the product and help the customer when problems arise is another matter. That is where Fuidfreeride and ultimately Kaabo fall short and that is why I would only recommend buying this product if you are within a few hours drive of Miami. I will send this mail to Kaabo and include a link to the Youtube video outlining the issues at hand with a detailed video shortly.”
Hi Felix - Thank you for your detailed review. We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the product. As you said, we offered to send you a replacement for the charging port as, in case of a defect, these are usually replaced by our customers at home. However, we understand if you prefer not to do this yourself, especially if you got electrocuted the first time. The best way to fix this is to send the scooter to our repair center in Miami.
“Great scooter. Ligth. Fast. Plenty of power. Great looks. Loads of good times. Had a few issues with my initial scooter, but it was resolved quickly by Fluid. Customer service is top notch. Would highly recommend. Happy customer.”
