FlightLine F8F-1 Bearcat 1200mm (47") Wingspan - PNP Reviews

I would like to say that even though I did find a couple issues with this kit and I found no issues with the plane. That being said, I have now flown this bird 8 times and each time I fly it, it becomes one of my favorites. It will not do airbatics like a 3D airplane, but will do most including a knife edge. It's landings are flawless with power on and fly it in. I have not tried floating it in like some that have not been that proficient in power on landings. However, with saying that the plane can almost become a trainer. I have not found one bad flight habit. I also feel the plane is stout and well put together. My rear horizontal sabilizers were a bit of a chore due to a very close tolerence in the foam fitting. It took me about 20 minutes to just put the stabs on. I didn't want to put too much pressure on the foam and ended up rocking the stabs into place. It is always good to place one side on first and lock in position prior to installing the next. I also, as I normally do, put at least 2 coats of Minwax Polycrilic on to the paint before any assembly. Now the two things I did find wrong with the plane was the control boad was improperly wired from the factory (always a QC problem) It took me about 1/2 an hour to find that the wiring was wrong. I also found that one of the flap servos was not a reversed servo, so that alowed the flaps to become a secondary aileron. Just had to dig out one of the servos embeded into the foam and replace with a correct servo. The Chinese are not that good on QC. This ends up my review for now. I can say as usual Flight Line has made another fantastic plane for flying and good looks.Sincerely,Mako Smith

Am using a 3200 mah 4S battery. Added 3.0z weight at the front of the battery compartment ( 1.5 oz stick on weights on each side at front of compartment ). Flew fine first flight although a little elevator sensitive if pulled too much. Since have added 25% expo. I read in a review in Model Aviation that one of the inner doors on the reviewer's plane would not close when wheels retracted. When I was putting the plane together I also noticed that one of the doors stuck. Solved the problem by putting a drop of oil on each hinge point. Works fine.

Crashed after 20 seconds of flight. And I don't believe it was pilot error

Maidened my Bearcat on 4-8-17 using a Zippy 4 cell 5000 25c battery . Balanced perfectly with no added weight . Tracked true on takeoff , the wide gear is wonderful. Used a small amount of flaps for takeoff . Pulled up the gear and a few clicks of down had her flying sweet ! flew 9 minutes on this battery at mostly mid throttle , more throttle made a small increase in speed . First landing was without flaps , floated in for a nice landing ! My friends said it lands sweet ! flew three more times on Saturday and four times on Sunday . This one is now one of my favorites . Looks great , nice finish and the choice of markings was really nice .

Fast assembly. Excellent graphics! Ground handling is great with the wide stance. It has good power for aerobatics and good seven minutes of flight time. Overall it's a great value. Gregg

This maiden review follows my earlier build review. I decided to use one of my 2500 mAh batteries with a T connector so had to add 5 ounces to the nose for balance. I removed the dummy Wasp engine that comes with the plane and glued 2 1/2 oz. immediately behind where the dummy is fitted - very convenient and with the dummy back in place the weights are virtually invisible. I added another 2 1/2 ounces in the battery compartment which brought my CG right on spec. The maiden flight was without incident - the plane is very stable and easy to fly. I used a combination of hi,med and low rates but there's plenty of latitude to try various settings. This plane looks terrific in the air and I got a lot of compliments at the field for its looks in the air and on the ground. Landing is a breeze - I didn't use flaps this time but will do next time I fly it, soon I hope. This plane is a blast to fly - go slow or flat out, its a dream.

This is a build review. I haven't flown it yet. This airplane is very nicely packaged and arrived undamaged. Assembly is quick and easy, although like some others I had to shave some off the wings and stabilizers to make them fit and even so they are a very tight fit (this is good). The 6 servo connectors from the wings simply fit directly into the 'control board' which eliminates the vee connectors. The decals go on easily; the sheets are a 3 part laminate, the alphanumerics being the middle layer,, unlike those I'm used to when decalling a monokoted glo or gas plane. The airplane looks terrific when finished; the quality of the parts and the detailing is very good. I haven't decided what to do about the CG at this point. Using a 4 cell 2500 mAh battery, the plane is very tail heavy and will require 5 oz at the nose to balance at 80mm back from the wing root. I could use a 4000mAh battery which is about 4 oz heavier than the 2500, but I have several 2500's so would rather use those. Will post a post maiden flight review later

Beautiful surface finish and easy to build. I too had to trim down the plastic tubes a little to get the wing mounted. Thought what a shame, such a beautiful finish and have to put those big shiny decals on it. SURPRISE!!! The decals are stick and peel. Install the whole clear sheet that covers a particular decal, rub the letters really good then carefully peel off the shiny part leaving just the actual numbers-letters only. Looks great. I used the Blue Angel scheme and went on line to Blue Angels Planes and looked up the Bearcat photos of the full size plane. Shows the proper lettering and placement of U.S.NAVY etc decals.
