“Excellent camera, this the third one I've brought so the garden is well covered to capture great footage. Brilliant quality videos. Would definitely recommend.”
“I have used camera-traps professionally for the past ten years, many different makes and models, to carry out large-scale surveys across northern Scotland. The high battery cost (environmental and financial) is a serious drawback to camera-trap surveys, and I have tested various solar models previously but never found them to be very good. Usually, the solar panels were separate units with long wires that had to be tied around the tree/stake, they made the cameras really obvious (and were easy to steal) and the connections would get wet. They also wouldn't hold their charge for very long, and in northern Scotland, doing surveys in areas with forest cover, you would get a bit extra from the solar panels but mainly rely on large quantities of lithium batteries. I have used the Helarctos for the past few months, and I am really impressed with it. It is compact and feels solid and well-made. It is very easy to use and setup. Both the day and nighttime video and image quality are excellent, especially for the price point. I live in the far north of Scotland, so we don't get much daylight in the winter, and we have had very cold temperatures (which drain power). I charged the camera when I first received it (via USB) as instructed, and I put the four backup lithium batteries in. It was out in the garden for a few months (battery still 100%), then brought in for 6 weeks due to snow and bad weather. I put it out again a few days ago and the battery is still 100%. Very impressive, definitely my camera-trap of choice now.”
“This is a great camera, easy to set up and works perfectly next to a river. Only picking up animal movement and not just river flow etc. We’ve filmed lots of herons, our cats, and an otter!”
“So easy to set up but with sophisticated settings which allow for use in different environments. Camera is excellent and looking forward to using the camera and hopefully capturing more pictures of the otter that visits our garden”
“Next day delivery. Camera is compact and light. Setup is easy, battery charging is slow though. We got some really good video on its first night, both night and day recording quality is great. You can connect and download images/videos whilst the camera is still in situ, download speeds are pretty slow though and drain the battery pretty quickly so if you got a lot of data it’s best done indoors where you can plug the camera in to charge. The Wildlife Cam app is OK but not great - a bit clunky and has frozen a couple of times. Overall, we’re really pleased as the quality of images and recordings is great.”
“I am delighted with the quality of the photography, both day and night. The images are crystal clear and the colour is so true. I have had cameras before but this one surpasses them all. May I also add that friends who have cameras have viewed my images and are also very impressded”
“Good
Easy to setup
Great range of photo resolutions & qualities. Film choices decent too
Great field of view.
The Wildlife Cam app has an Auto Connect feature that makes it a one press connection from your device to the Helarctos.
Could be better
The wifi range is only similar to the Wildlife camera I'm replacing; so, with a slightly obscured line of site view, in-app disconnects are more often than I expected.
Bottom line, the Helarctos is a good upgrade to my old competitor’s camera.”
