The Brimar CV4003/12AU7 in the preamp of my PrimaLuna EVO 300 integrated amplifier's preamp first position widens the stereo field over the stock PrimLuna 12AU7 preamp tubes included. I paired the Brimars with a pair of GE Military Stock 12AU7/6189Ws for the second position. Not that the stock PrimaLuna 12AU7s are lacking, mind you. I spent the previous day listening to the stock PrimaLuna 12AU7s for about 4 hours plus with plenty of joy. However, if you want something "extra," I highly recommend the Brimar CV4003/12AU7s. Have fun! (The amplifier and tubes have yet to be broken in and I am hearing results) See my PrimaLuna EVO 300 integrated amplifier review for more details on my overall experience.

The tubes themselves are GREAT if you can manage to get a good set. Unfortunately, regardless of what Kevin states, these tubes are DEFINITELY NOT tested for microphonics. Of the (4) tubes I ordered (2) would, upon the lightest tap with the tip of an eraser, send a very loud thump to my speakers. Wrote customer service and was told "well we don't recommend tapping the tubes when they're on". They were kind enough to send me (2) replacements. Of those (2), (1) would let out a large thump upon lightly touching it with the tip of a pencil eraser. All of the tubes tested ok on my tube tester so there was no issue there. I'm flummoxed a bit here. Does anyone know a better method of testing for microphonics other than the tap test that's been used by every tube guy I know for the last 40 years? Not noise, but specifically, microphonics. It's the only way I've ever known. Right now I've got (3) Brimars that are dead silent and (1) that failed the tap test.
