Portrait Painting with Jonathan Yeo Reviews

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Pursue a hobby
Far too much talking; not enough demonstration of techniques and methodology or information about, e.g. canvas types, preferred paints etc. This was not what I expected and I’m very glad that at least I didn’t pay the full price.

Hi Coral, Thanks for your review. We value every BBC Maestro customer, and really value your feedback. All courses have detailed course notes to accompany them, which a lot of learners find really useful when watching a course, especially when completing the course exercises. These might give you an opportunity to practice which I hope you find useful! I hope this helps, but feel free to contact our amazing customer service team at support@bbcmaestro.com if you would like more support! Best, Rebecca

I was expecting instruction on how to paint, but mainly got chat and naval gazing. Slightly disappointing given the high cost, but still an interesting and enjoyable experience... just don't expect any tips or tricks on how to be a better painter. Also, the camera annoyingly panned back and forth too often.

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Other
Basically, the course is a very long and repetitive interview with Jonathan Yeo. At first, it might be interesting to learn about the early career of a successful artist. However, after a while, the videos start to repeat the same things in an endless conversation about very basic tips, without depth and with little educational content. There is very little theory or practical demonstrations, and many basic tips for beginners that can be learned from any oil painting video on YouTube. For those who already paint, it will be difficult to finish all the videos. The course is quite disappointing.

I was hoping for lessons in how to paint, but so far it is just talk. I'll leave another review when the course is finished.

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Learn a new skill
It is more like an interview with Yeo than an art course. Very sparse on instruction or demonstration and the course notes are simply a reiteration of what is said in the videos. I. Was expecting more in-depth detail. I learned very little and am more than disappointed.

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Achieve career goals
I've enjoyed a successful career in graphic design for over two decades, but am keen to one day return to my first passion - painting! Art school seems like a lifetime away, so it's been fascinating, and enjoyable, to gain some valuable insights into Jonathan's processes. This has really helped give me confidence in the way that I work and to continue experimenting. Thank you Jonathan

The course is very interesting. It's also nice to hear Jonathan talk about his thoughts of his way to were he is now.
