About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. “I initially didnt order this because some of the reviews are bad, however Im glad I took a chance as the set is perfect. I wanted one that was good for travel and for beginners and its perfect. The pieces are beautifully made and the board is a perfect size and folds in half.The pieces are light, so its not heavy to travel with. On the inside there are elastic places to hold each one in place. The board closes well and seems to stay closed.Its a great, nicely made travel chess set.”

“Fantastic quality, and great value. It was shipped very quickly and the packaging was very premium. I was so impressed. It definitely looks more expensive than it cost. The size is also perfect (there were a lot of smaller chess boards online but this foldable one is a nice traditional size for playing).”

“playing with this set for past 3 months or more never had problem with quality.pieces are in the same state as i bought them board is still in mint condition.only thing I would love to be changed about them that they would have bit more weight they are very light weight.”

“A reasonably sized board and priced for beginners but its pieces are quite roughly crafted, the board had two chips in it and the grooved board detail shown in the photo was missing. Is a marketing triumph trick? for Jaques who seem to be repackaging and upselling a cheapish product by putting it in a nice wrapping with a ribbon and a supposedly handsigned slip saying it was packed by name, which on closer inspection was actually printed. My packer clearly didnt notice she was sending out a damaged item! I returned my purchase and bought this exact set at Smyths for 30 less, complete with the board detail seen in the photo.”
