About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. “Very good quality and exceptional care taken in wrapping and presentation. I am genuinely surprised by how nice a chess set it is considering the price. Doesnt take up much space packed away and could easily be taken on holiday or trips away. If the mood ever takes me to spend serious money on a chess set, Jaques is where Ill be looking.”

“About an inch long scuff mark on the wooden case but as it was not a gift but for our family use it was okay. Presentation of box was very nice and pieces were in good condition. Will suit my son when he returns to university.”

“AMAZING BARGAIN HIGH QUALITY WOODEN BOARD NO CHEAP VENEERS AND FITTINGS, LARGE SQUARES, SPACIOUS BOARD, EASY TO RECOGNISE STAUNTON PIECES. ABSOLUTELY FIRST CHOICE AT THIS PRICE INDEED FOR UP TO 50 AT LEAST.ONLY POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENT ADD ABCDFGHI 12345678 to the lateral vertical borders respectively corresponding to chess notation so easy to set up positions from books record during play. That would make it perfect.”

“Well done Jacques of London. Everything about this is fabulous. I love it. The only reason it loses a star is because the of hinges.When the board is set out to play the hinges lift the middle of the board. A small niggle I know but one which could be easily rectified with different hinges.”

“Chess set is made to a high standard. Pieces are secured well in the elasticated carry compartment inside the chest board making it easy to transport. The finish on the board and chess piece is to a good standard. Would recommend this it as a present the why it is packaged is to a very nice level.”
