Pros * Lovely packaging, would make a very good gift * Overall look is quite nice. Would look good as a display piece on your coffee table.Cons * As with other reviewers, the dark pieces have mismatched colours. The dark King and Bishop in isolation look like theyre on opposing sides see the photo * Board had a couple of blemishes on it * The squares dont quite line up between the two folding halves * Biggest problem was its not comfortable to play actual games on most of the pieces wobble and dont sit flush against the board. After a couple of games I gave up, and have returned it. I bought a 10 plastic magnetic set and its much easier to play on.

UPDATED original product supplied was disappointing quality and communication with Jaques took a while because the world was in lockdown however they showed a sincere apology and a genuine desire to satisfy, and sent a replacement set which is just perfect. Well made, attractive and a pleasure to play with. Thanks

The squares on the two sides dont line up. The top surface was already scratched and wearing thin before it was even used. Not impressed.

I bought this chess set for my husband a few months qgo as a present and hes only recently opened it to play a game.Although it was packaged beauifully, we were disappointed to find the craftmanship on some of the pieces was poor. Shame really.

I got my chess but Im not satisfied with. The chessboard is nice but the chess figures are disappointing. Smaller then I expected pawns are 3.4cm, especially the base of figures and they are too light pawns have 3g. As well some figures have a very grumpy base bishops and that makes them even more unstable. I added photos with another, smaller chessboard for comparison.Maybe everything is in expectation but I have smaller and cheaper chessboards that are much nicer.

Very nice set for the money. Lighter than it looks because the wood is thin but complaints about materials are unrealistic at the price. My six year old loves it. The odd quality control issue with the pieces a couple wobble as something underneath the felt on the base protrudes below the rim, and the queens crowns and bishops mitres could be better defined but on the whole good value. Nice box and card. The ruleshistory inlay is another nice touch, but the section on the en passant rule could do with a recast for clarity if I didnt know the rule already I think I would be none the wiser for reading it.
