“Rayne (because she is the color of a cloud and it means "queen" in Spanish; born June 2020) is a precious flock member. She is large, gray, with poufy cheeks, a loud chatterbox when anyone is around, and lays beautiful olive green eggs. Initially, she was handled easily, but as she grew, she didn't like to be touched. She will come right up to you and is our designated "cleaner of your pants" ha, though! She is friendly with the other chickens and has even pulled some cabbage off the tether ball to seemingly allow one of our Silkies to access more of the goodies! Even spending what amount I did, I fully understood the chance I took with Rayne's health, broodiness, egg color, egg production, and temperament when purchasing-it's all part of buying live animals! I really liked how attentive MPC was with sending emails to remind of taking leg bands off, reminding me that if I have questions I could call, etc. Certainly above and beyond and I recommend them fully! Get a Rayne or two or twelve for your flock! You won't regret trying the GQs!”
“Id previously ordered 2 of these in a large batch of purebred chicks and lost them both around 8wks old.
This time I ordered 16 chicks: 8 Green Queens and 8 "Easter Eggers". Both are a similar mix but keeping purebred Faverolles for breeding I really hoped Id get some faverolle cross Green Queens with 5 toes for a fun spin on my purebred girls and boys.
All 16 arrived alive despite very cold weather and it being very near Christmas (thank you USPS for that miracle). One little girl did pass away despite assistance from me that first night, but almost 2wks in now the other 15 are strong, active, curious and growing perfectly.
This was a very fun order I highly recommend for a family flock, while a few look very similar (about 4 look like partridge patterned chicks with chipmunk stripe and dark red heads) they all have something different that helps me identify them as individuals. Perfect for naming your birds and telling who's-who.
I did end up with 3, 5 toed chicks with beards and muffs (clearly faverolle crosses) two looked almost exactly like faverolles except for the black spot on ones head, and the other had black and white chipmunk stripes. The 3rd faverolle QG was sadly the one I lost at 24hrs and the MOST beautiful seal black coat with a deep bright red head cap. I have no idea what she was a cross from but I wish I did as she was simply stunning and so uniquely colored.
My ONLY complaint for this amazing cross is that My Pet Chicken doesnt offer a service where you get to pick your 10 or 15 chicks from a box of say 50 all by yourself. That would be like a "birthday dream package for chicken lovers!" Each one is so cute and wildly unique I'd probably take all 50 home instead of choosing. Lol.
Hey MPC, when Covid is no longer a thing can we get premium package hatchery trips with a "pick your green queen" deal? *WINK WINK*”
“We ordered a Green Queen and named her Fiona. She‚Äôs only two weeks old but she is the sweetest girl! She‚Äôs a beautiful grey for now, is very active, and loves being held and perching on our shoulders. She‚Äôs got a huge personality so far and we can‚Äôt wait to see her all grown up. So far she‚Äôs one of my favorites!”
“We received two green queens in a mixed rare breeds box (hatch date 4/10). We weren‚Äôt certain what they were until they began laying in August. Our two are white/lightish yellow and bearded and both lay lovely large green/blue eggs. Their eggs are almost indistinguishable from our EE. They have a sweet temperament and will squat when I approach them. Would certainly get this breed again.”
“Purchased two Green Queens and they were by far my prettiest birds, sweet but a little flighty. Never got to see the color they would unfortunately as one managed to get herself stuck in an auto feeder at 8 weeks old (the only bird to EVER do so go figure) and the other sneezed once, was given antibiotics, nutradrench, separated from the flock immediately and died 2 hrs later. (At 9 weeks old) :/
I had already ordered more since I liked these two so much. Hopefully the next two are smarter and hardier! Very annoyed that I lost my two favorite birds within a week of each other!”
“My GQ finally started laying. Assuming she was born on a sunday, she was 23 weeks, and 4 days for her first egg. We got the small percentage of a pinkish brown egg color. I was super disappointed. Like, SUPER sad about it. We let our children name our flock and this girls name is Elsa. (Shocker I know from a 3 year old) It's pretty fitting. She's a beautiful bird, very regal looking. Very friendly and very talkative. I wish I could post pictures. Every time I walk outside, she runs right up to me and jumps in my lap if I let her. She laid 3 eggs the first day and has laid an egg every day since. It says the GQs are hardy to the heat but I don't know. I live in Texas and we had many 110+ days this summer. She was struggling pretty hard, sometimes wouldn't move. I had a mister on, a fan, electrolytes in the water, and multiple daily ice baths. I didn't think she was going to make it but she did.”
“Got two of these figuring that would offset the odds and I would be likely to get one who was laying green eggs. No such luck. Both lay brown eggs and both went broody at seven months old.”
“My GQEE is a pretty chicken, bought in hopes of some pretty eggs, consistently laid. Not much hope of that now. She has always been extra bossy and has always wanted to pick fights with the young rooster from the same order; And this morning she began crowing. Kinda bummed about it. Fixing to try and get a picture to send.”
