“Beautiful little birds! I have two hens who are so cute. One is muffed and bearded and the other is beardless with a huge pompom on her head! They both recently started laying- the first laid at 22.5 weeks old and the other at 24 weeks. The eggs are beautiful light blue and one lays a slightly greener tint. They are adorable and pretty quiet but have witchy little voices when they do talk. LOL.”
“I bought Cream Puff July 2022. She is my favorite of the 13 other chickens I have! Cutest chick, cutest hen. She is always at our feet following us around and singing to us. She likes to be picked up and held. She's so cute!!! She has normal-ish feathers on her wings, but the rest of her is fluffy, like a forever chick. She has a silly little poof on her head, brilliant turquoise ears, feathery feat, and bluish-gray skin and beak. She is a petite little thing (compared to my Wyandotts, Cream Legbar, Cochin, etc), but has done well in northern Minnesota. She tucks herself in between the others on the roosting bar at night and almost disappears! At 7mo old, she just laid her first egg. It was light blue!!!! Even if it wasn't blue, I would have had no regrets (except I wish I would have gotten more last year when they were $22!).”
“I received a silked Easter eggar as a bonus chick with my order. Coconut is 8 months old now and looks like a silkie (except for the greenish featherless feet)but has a BIG bold personality (more like my EE’s) For the longest time I thought she was a rooster. She’s extremely treat motivated. She knows her name and comes charging with her head down when I call her. She’s hilarious, I’ll definitely be ordering more!”
“We had for 2 years now. She's gone broody a few times. She lays small blue eggs. I do believe the advertise egg count is way off maybe 2 eggs a week, under 100 eggs a year. She hasn't laid a single egg since Sept. I wouldn't get another silkie since we're looking for egg production but we still keep here because she's adorable.”
“I love this curious breed!
I got two! Both have beautiful silky feathering and black skin. One has a crest, prominent muff and beard, and furry legs. Then the other has slight muff and beard, naked legs but 5 toes on each foot! We had a third one that passed at only a week old and she had it all but one foot was feathered with 4 toes and the other was naked with 5! So we got quite a good mix up between the 3. They're very friendly and curious. They love to be pet and talked to. They just reached 5 months. Won't be long for eggs! I can't wait to see if they'll be blue or brown.
*The chick that passed arrived perfectly healthy and was thriving. Hatchery was not at fault. Ive been raising chicks for 20 years and sometimes they just go naturally and suddenly in their sleep at that very young and fragile age. I only brought up the 3rd chick to talk about her breed traits in comparison to her sisters :)* I would definitely recommend this adorable breed and hatchery!”
“I have 3 girls and one roo who are a bit over 6 months now and I'm happy to say I got my first egg today during early January- a beautiful blue green! My 4 arrived with 4 other day old chicks and everyone thrived from the start. They're very curious birds who want to know what you're up to and they're easy going. All 4 have black skin, feathered legs and 5 toes and are lovely puffballs. I paid half what they're charging now and I think I got a steal. Totally recommend splurging on these.”
“Very happy with my silked EE's. 4 out of 4 arrived alive and healthy. They were brooded together with 4 orpingtons, and even though they have been integrated into my flock of Bantam, they still stick together most days. They are not as eager to interact with people like my orpingtons, but they are docile and don't run away unless I try to pick them up. They seem to be a bit smarter than silkies, they learned to use a nipple waterer really quick, a treadle feeder and started going into the coop each night with minimal "training".
They all have a lot silkie traits, most have feathered feet, 5 toes, blue ears, and crested. They have already surpassed my Bantams in terms of size, and are slightly smaller than the orpingtons. They haven't started laying yet since they are only 3 months old, but I hope to get at least one blue egg layer. I would definitely recommend if you want the silkie look, larger sized bird and are OK with various colored eggs.”
