We’re sorry to hear your concerns that you may not have received your Silked White Easter Eggers. We completely understand how disappointing that can feel, especially when you’ve been looking forward to this specific breed. We're more than happy to help confirm their identities.
If you're open to sharing photos of your chicks in the coming weeks, our team would be glad to assist with identification and make sure everything aligns with what you ordered. We want to ensure you receive the breed you were so excited to raise and are here to support you every step of the way.
“My Silked white Easter Egger was a substitute for a different breed where the hatching didn't go well. I have to say she isn't friendly, sweet or calm. Opal, her name, is a very flighty drama queen. She is somehow the head of the pecking order of my five pullets and her influence on the others is rather strong making my calmer breeds flighty, too. She is honestly the most annoying female chicken I've ever had. They are all still too young to lay but I hope her eggs are blue. I wish I had made a different choice. I'd gladly trade her for a calmer breed. I've always loved having chickens but Opal is challenging that. I give this breed 3 stars only because I haven't seen her eggs yet. If they aren't a good blue, I'd give her 1 star. I am disappointed in this breed.”
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Opal. It sounds like she has quite the personality! We are sorry to hear that you find her presence in the flock to be an annoyance, to the point where chicken keeping is becoming less of a fun experience. We never want that for any chicken keeper! While Silked White Easter Eggers are prized for their sweet disposition and blue egg laying abilities, chickens are still individuals who can have some variance in their personalities. We always hope for the best when they join your flock, but we understand that sometimes things don't go as smoothly as planned.
It's not uncommon for 'top hens' to influence the behavior of others. To help her calm down, you may wish to place her in a carrier or cage for a time out. You can work to build her trust individually through treats and calm care while you are tending to her. Some chickens behave differently when they have been separated from the flock, and it may give you a chance to rein in her flighty behavior. If you can pick her up, something else that can build trust with a chicken is helping her preen her feathers - this is especially helpful for the silked breeds in our experience.
We're keeping our fingers crossed for those lovely blue eggs! If you find that Opal continues to be a handful, don't hesitate to reach out for tips on helping her integrate better with your flock.
“One of the reasons I chose My Pet Chicken is for the Silked Easter Egger. The one I received had curled toes and issues with its legs. It can’t walk. I’ve been hand feeding it and have bought several different supplements to try to help it. I spend a large part of my day giving her attention. My Pet Chicken has provided some helpful tips and has been kind about the situation. They’ve said they’d refund the chick since it didn’t arrive healthy. But that unfortunately doesn’t make everything better. Today it is more lethargic than it has been and I’m so sad to think she’s not
going to make it. It’s a terrible feeling to watch a chick you’ve waited so long for suffer. From my research it appears this can be from a parent vitamin deficiency or incubator issues. Both of those I had high confidence in My Pet Chicken to get right. I hope they’re looking into this issue so no more are born like this. I won’t be able to get another Silked Easter Egger due to the minimum chick shipping number and am very sad and disappointed with this. I hope others receive healthy chicks. If you’re on the fence about this breed I’d probably suggest going with something different until they get issues sorted out.”
We’re truly sorry to hear about the challenges you've faced with your Silked White Easter Egger. We understand how deeply troubling it is to watch a chick struggle, especially after eagerly anticipating its arrival. Your dedication to helping her is admirable, and it's clear how much you care.
While our goal is to provide healthy chicks, we recognize that some may have unforeseen issues, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We're committed to learning from every experience to improve our breeding and shipping practices. While the vast majority of our Silked White Easter Egger chicks arrive with no issues, occasionally, our hatchery staff may overlook a chick on hatch day. We strive to ensure that all chicks arrive happy and healthy, but as you have discovered, sometimes our efforts are not enough. Our Alive & Healthy Guarantee is in place for situations like this, and while we know it doesn't make up for her condition, we are glad we could issue a refund for your chick.
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope for the best for your little one. If there’s anything more we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out.
“Ordered a male and female along with an Oliver egger and an Ameraucana. Within 2 days the Oliver egger and Ameraucana were growing and thriving and the two silkened Easter eggers were dead within hours of each other. This is my 4 order from MPC and my first loss(es) - I’m lucky I know. They’re very expensive and to lose both within hours sucks. I wouldn’t order these again.”
We’re truly sorry you had such an unfortunate experience with your Silked White Easter Eggers. While this variety is one we safely ship every week with great success, it sounds like these two may have encountered more stress than usual in transit. While uncommon, shipping can sometimes impact individual chicks differently.
We understand how upsetting it is to experience losses, especially when the rest of your chicks are thriving. We’re glad we were able to issue a refund and follow up with you personally. We wish you all the best with your Olive Egger and Ameraucana chicks and hope they bring you years of enjoyment. As always, we’re here for you if you have any questions or concerns about your flock’s wellbeing.
“I ordered two of these in 2023. Both are fluffy and fully white. One with the perfect silkie topknot, the other had more of a mohawk (so much so, that I was certain she was a he!). Eggs for both are so pale blue as to be almost white, which was disappointing. I honestly can't tell they are blue unless they are sitting next to my polish white eggs. One lays all through winter, nearly every day a large egg. The other was maybe a once a week layer, stopped fully from late fall to early summer. She tried though!
One of my EE silkies is the biggest hen I have by a couple of pounds. Feels like all muscle. Isn't friendly, and very bossy. Hates being handled, and can nearly fight me off with her strength. Not worried about a hawk or a raccoon taking off with her.
The other was the tiniest of all my chickens. She was sweet and didn't mind being held, but hated being picked up. Laid very small eggs. Unfortunately had a habit of snoozing in unsafe places and was carried off by a raccoon one afternoon in 2024.
Neither ever fully integrated with my flock as a whole. They made a sorta sub-flock with my partridge easter egger who I got at the same time and was raised with them. Even now without my itty bitty one, the partridge and silked easter egger do their own thing together. Not sure if its them or the polish (who I think can be very cliquey).
Health-wise in the few years I've had them I've had no issues. They never had pasty butt as chicks. Perfect amount of toes. Seemed to come from good breeding stock (which is more than I can say about the silkies I got from a certain tractor farm store...one of them had SEVEN toes on one foot, five on the other). Good eaters. No mites or other illnesses noticed. Maybe not as cold hardy as some of my other chickens. Seem to do pretty good in the 100+ degrees weeks as well.
I would buy these again someday and hope to get a bird that was a mix of the two I have. Love the constancy of the big girl, but she kinda ugly. The little one was adorable, but pretty much useless as an egg layer.”
Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review! It’s always fascinating to see how unique each Silkied Easter Egger can be, from personality to laying habits. Sounds like you had quite the dynamic duo—one strong-willed powerhouse and one tiny sweetheart.
We’re sorry to hear about the loss of your little one—she sounded like a special girl. It's interesting how your pair stuck together with your Partridge Easter Egger, forming their own little sub-flock. Chickens definitely have their own social dynamics, and we agree—Polish can be quite the cliquey bunch!
We appreciate your honest feedback on egg color, size, and temperament. The range of traits in this breed definitely makes for some fun surprises! Hopefully, when you add more in the future, you’ll get that perfect mix of big & beautiful with sweet & productive. Thank you for choosing My Pet Chicken and for sharing your experience—we love hearing about your flock!
“These sweeties are a perfect back yard chicken! They are friendly, smart and sociable. Mine are still laying eggs through the winter. I highly recommend this breed. I can't wait to get a few more ^.^”
We totally agree, Karla! Silked White Easter Eggers are friendly and sociable but it is that gorgeous silked appearance that makes them so special! Since they are an MPC exclusive breed, we bred them to be cold and heat hardy, as well as great layers! Smart, hardy and beautiful- the perfect package!
We are so glad you’re enjoying them! If you ever need tips or have any questions about care, don’t hesitate to reach out.
“Not your average silkie— this girl is near top of the pecking order in a mixed flock. Very reliable layer of medium blue eggs. She doesn’t even go broody! Tolerates all seasons with no issues.”
Thank you for sharing your experience and your beautiful photo of the Silked White Easter Egger! We aren't surprised that she is holding her own at the top of the pecking order; Silked White Easter Eggers are a My Pet Chicken exclusive- a result of selective breeding across multiple generations. They are the perfect blend of beauty, grace, hardiness and reliable layers!
A reliable layer of medium blue eggs without the broodiness? Sounds like the best of both worlds! It’s great to know she’s thriving in all seasons, too. This just goes to show how wonderfully unique these birds can be! We hope she continues to bring you many years of joy!
