“I'm so sad to leave a 1-star review and it is specifically for this breed, NOT for My Pet Chicken (who are wonderful!).
We got 3 Silked White Easter Eggers along with a few other breeds and these have turned out to be the most vicious and neurotic of the bunch. They are smaller than the others and their appearance is very cute and although they don't get picked on by the other breeds, they pick on others and especially each other! They are not docile, not friendly, even after being handled and cared for lovingly since we received them. We do not have these problems with our other breeds. We are so disappointed and feel if they continue to cause problems in our flock they will need to be removed.”
We are so very sorry to hear of your less than wonderful experience with the Silked White Easter Eggers! These little ones are typically one of the most friendly and docile breeds of chickens but there can be surprises every now and then! Sometimes, when any breed of little ones are going through their "puberty" stage, they can become a bit more aggressive and flighty. With your girls' age being around 17-18 weeks of age, we are hopeful that they will mellow out for you. Perhaps this article from our FAQs may offer some helpful suggestions and guidance to hopefully ease the tension for these 3 young "ladies": My flock is pecking one another! What should I do? We would love to hear more about your little ones and how they are adapting. Please feel free to reach out to us at flockcare@mypetchicken.com.
“All eight (8) of my gals arrived happy and healthy!
First, I’ll give a little information on when they shipped/how long it took/etc… for those nervous folks like me! They hatched in Ohio on a Monday and by 4:30 PM, I received notification they were in route. They then arrived in Cleveland around 7:30 PM. I anxiously waited and never got another notification until I got a call Wednesday morning from my local post office. They evidently shipped from Cleveland late Monday night, but it took about 30 hours to make it to my local post office (Galveston, TX which is an hour south of Houston). I was able to pick them up at 8:30 AM from the post office. The total time in transit was about 40 hours give or take.
They are now one week old today, and all growing so fast. Wing feathers are developing nicely on all of them. They all eat like little oikers, and love to chase flies (a big problem on the Texas coast). I ordered one of each of a Silked White Easter Egger, Blue Splash Ameraucana, Lavender Dream Easter Egger, Blue/Black/Splash Orpington, Cuckoo Bluebar Blue-Egger, Golden Cuckoo Maran, Golden Laced Wyandotte, and an Olive Egger. The Silked and the Golden Maran both have feathers on their legs, so that is exciting for me! I am struggling telling the difference in a few of them. I know the Silked, the Golden Maran (she is brown and looks just like the photo), the Wyandotte (also looks just like the posted photo), and the Lavender Easter Egger. The Bluebar and the Olive Egger look almost identical, and the Blue Splash Ameraucana and Orpington are too similar for me to tell tight now. I’m super excited to watch as they grown to figure this mystery out!
Personalities are developing, but the Golden Cuckoo Maran is EASILY the more inquisitive and friendly. She runs up to the edge of the pen every time I unzip the top (which by the way they HATE when I unzip and zip up that top of the pop-up brooder). She also will jump in my hand and try to walk up my arm. She is going to be fun! The Golden Laced Wyandotte and the Lavender Dream Easter Egger can’t stand her getting all the attention, so they then come up to visit me. One of either the Bluebar or the Olive Egger is also pretty friendly. The other one will not get anywhere near me! After reading reviews, it might be the Bluebar. The Silked White Easter Egger, and the Blue/Black/Splash Orpington eventually come over as they see the others having fun with “papa”.”
Thank you for this wonderful review which is so helpful to your fellow flock keepers in what to expect when ordering their babies from My Pet Chicken! We are so happy to hear they are doing well and bringing you happiness! Please let us know how we may help you with your flock needs in the future!
“Two of the seven chickens did not survive the shipment. The silked white easter egger and the cream legbar. Now this might be the post offices fault, or it could be mypetchickens fault, but they were shipped to my house and not the post office. It was a cold day that the were dropped off at my doorstep so they got too cold to survive and thrive. I was able to warm up the others quickly because I could see their lethargy as well. I was refunded the cost of the two that passed, but I will have to pay shipping again if I order replacements. This was a shipping error with a tragic result so having to pay for shipping again on this loss is poor business practices in my opinion. I have never lost a chick in transport from other hatcheries and this is my first time using my pet chicken.”
I'm sorry to hear about the issues and loss you experienced with your order. While we're glad we could provide a refund, we understand it doesn't replace the chicks you were expecting. We do advise USPS to call upon arrival so that you have the opportunity to pick them up and I'm sorry that those instructions were missed. We're continuously looking for ways to improve safety in shipping for our feathered friends and your feedback is valuable to us. You may find our blog post helpful for future orders, as it explains how the post office should call for pick up at their location rather than completing a home delivery. Here is the link to that article: How will I know that my chicks have arrived at the post office? If you have any further concerns, please reach out to us.
Thank you for taking the time to review the little ones from your order! We are so happy to hear they are doing well and bringing you happiness! My Pet Chicken hopes to help you with your flock needs in the future!
We are so happy to hear that your little Silked White Easter Egger is doing so well and bringing you joy! Thank you for taking the time to share with us!
“Silked White Easter Eggers are amazing! They have plucky and sweet little personalities. I have 3 and they all are the type of hen that allows any child to just walk up and pick them up. Mine are all fully silked but not heavenly feather footed so not as many chicken Pedicures needed. Also they have lovely crests but never do the crests block their vision. Two lay medium sized blue eggs and one lays a cream egg with little brown specked.”
Thank you, Tommy, for taking the time to review our Silked White Easter Eggers! We have to agree that they are such wonderful little ones! Your thoughtful comments will surely help other flock keepers and we are so happy to hear they are bringing you great happiness!
