What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The kids have been involved in creating alter sports events for other classes in the syndicate

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? We did a lot of measuring results and working them out. Everyone was capable of doing something well.

My kids loved this. Not only did we learn new language features, we also had so much fun!! It challenged us physically and encouraged the students to be imaginative with their language choices. The students took great pride in working out the mathematical side of things without teacher support (as much as possible) and had a lot fun sharing results.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Students like feeling like they're using many areas of the curriculum at one time in class. It's like they feel that they're getting more for their money/time!
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lots of interest around world records. Even today students have checked out the Guiness Book of Records from our local library. They want to find records that they can have a go at beating!

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The situations were interesting and they did the maths without really thinking they were doing the maths! Afterwards they were always amazed at how much learning they had actually done. Lots of opportunities for great mathematical discussions and argument

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Two out of the four completed DIY World Records were highly physical. The kids trained and did the physical activities again and again to try and improve. They were hopping on one foot for as long as they could and hula hooping while holding a ball above
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I love that I still have enough materials to repeat this learning kit with another class next year. Thank you so much for the kit.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Time: Students learnt to measure time accurately. Statistics: Students learnt to accurately count and record amounts and compare against other scores.

My Year 3 and Year 4 students thoroughly enjoyed this unit of work. They loved being timekeepers, official observers, recorders and competitors. While we only completed 4 DIY World Records this was purely due to time restraints and we chose to do what we did very well (with training included). We did find it challenging to come up with DIY World Record ideas that were do-able and measureable and repeatable and unique. We would have appreciated a 'bank' of ideas to get us started.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Once we got into the attempts, records were attempted in a range of area, physical and some more fine motor skilled based.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? To explore real World Records. To problems solve and think of ideas for personal inquiry.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Working out averages over several attempts at records.

This was a successful kit for our class. After some initial problems with accessing information I was able to follow the instructions and follow through with the students. The were engaged and enthusiastic but did need some prompting to think of fun, varied and achievable records to attempt.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We have been studying plants and seeds so the measurement component tied in nicely and we just finished our unit on skipping. The records tied in with the inquiry we have already started.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I only received the kit 2 weeks ago so have not had enough time to really get into it yet. It would of been nice to have more time to complete more of our challenges before writing my review. We have only had 9 days of school with the kit so far.
How many DIY World Records did your class make?
How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? We set a record for the fastest growing bean so the children used measurement to record the results as well as the tallest tower with our blocks. We used counting for our skipping record and time for the fastest lap around the court.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Children had lots of practice to refine their chosen skills. Next time kids want to try something slightly more physically challenging.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Using measurement and statistics alongside physical education will be my go to now.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Really encouraged kids to think how it would be best to measure distances, heights and speeds.

This was such an engaging kit and our kids want to use it again and again! It was great to bring in measurement and statistics in to our learning too. Getting to be one of the officials was seen as such a privilege and jobs were taken very seriously.
