We enjoyed using the kit. It was delayed over a two term period with Covid and illness delays. We probably didn't get as much out of it as we could have. But it culminated in two days of fun events. The maths link for us wasn't as clear.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Lots of cross curricula with the writing instructions/rules, reading rules/ listening to the rules/PE with all the movement and lots of learning around key competencies - relating to others/managing self - winning and losing.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lead well into Athletics!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Wonderful unit to end the Commonwealth Games with.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? There has been a lot of further investigating around world records, looking up and exploring different concepts of world record setting around the world and discussing how records are impacted by culture, economics and resources.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? There was a lot of estimating, time keeping, scoring and measuring.

DIY World Records was an excellent school kit that every child enjoyed and teachers enjoyed delivering. It was well resourced and structured and really met the needs of all learners easily. Each child created their own world record then we voted on the top 7 and those developers recruited an adjudicator and a timer. We held two sessions of world record breaking, with two classes hosting and 2 participating and then swapped over the roles.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? They loved the language involved in writing their record. We also tied it into some of our science learning with one group doing how many exploding film canisters could they do in one go
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Some students have been continuing their records on - challenging others to break them and have refined their measurement skills. We also encouraged other classes to get involved just by them being curious about what we were doing.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? There was a lot of thinking about what they were going to measure - time, distance, height etc. It also caused discussion on how they were going to measure - some used stopwatches, rulers, tape measure or less conventional means - cubes, steps, counting

This was my first kit and I was really impressed with the quality of the resources. The kids were really excited and got into the tasks effortlessly and was a bit of fun and purposeful at the same time.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Applying our math learning to different and real world contexts. Getting physically active in new and exciting ways. Literacy involved in the description of the records; coming up with ways to modify records.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students got very interested in current world records. Using it as a basis for developing goals: what do we want to achieve and what steps do we need to take in order to get there? Encouraging a growth mindset, not just giving up after one attempt.

Our class loved the hands on nature of this school kit. I used the achievable world records as a hook in- we watched some videos then went and gave the fastest heel to toe walk one a go. Students became a little bit confused when we introduced the coloured cards (mostly with the term superlative) so we had to go over that a few times before brainstorming. We had fun adding the 'something silly' but kept it within the constraints of what we had available to us within school. Great to see children who are usually hesitant in PE, participating in the physical activity of it all. Also loved the fact maths was heavily involved in this too but in a hands on way.
