My students loved being able to express their ideas and be able to challenge themselves. We are still working on our championship rounds. Not only was it easy to integrate this kit into many curriculum areas, my children have learnt valuable social skills!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Lots of physical education was brought out with their world records the students created. Some children even decided to do art.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? They had to think outside of the box. With the different measurements that many different records can have.

Children were so engaged in creating and competing their own world record. They barely noticed that they were also learning new mathematical skills and thinking. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to work collaboratively and develop new skills. Everything turned into a world record.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Most of the activities were PE based with some expectations. For example, one was for the highest pitch you could sing.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Skills learned with measurement will definitely be used for other learning situations. Team building skills also. The children were required to conscript others to be officials and recorders. They learned about various roles and what was required. An impo

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Measurement was a biggy. We talked about the importance of accuracy and consistency in testing.

Clear instructions with this kit. There were plenty of times to use our imagination and come up with some wacky attempts. Unfortunately, we had some tough times with the flooding in Nelson which interrupted things. The paperwork provided gave the children really helpful steps in working their way through the process. We shared our work with our syndicate and as a result, had some challenges from children in other classes.

We had a lot of learning about relationships, learning to lose, appreciating differences and strengths as well as fair play, inclusion and competition. with just 10 students the unit had to be adapted for individual competition/records..
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lots of inclusive fitness activities
How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Lots of measurement in different forms. Timing to complete, scores within a time limit, measuring distance etc

The students enjoyed the kit because they each came up with a challenge that they were good at. Thus the kit gave positive reinforcement that everyone has strengths. Students became competitive to beat each others records.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? We timed in with our measurement unit and it allowed the ākonga to use it in meaningful way.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? They did like the physical activity and the added silly which was involved. It was a fun activity which they were keen to do.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Activities which we would like to do but don't have measuring equipment for.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? I have a year 3 class and they struggle to come up with superlatives for each activity and figure out how to measure them, but I felt like they were getting there just before the holiday. We will try to do some more. They were all keen taking on the role

Overall I thought that is was a cool and inspiring learning kit, but it had limitations. Extra meassuring exuipment, such as scales, meassuring cups, stop watches are needed to extend activities and learning. The teacher instructions could have also been more clear.
