What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We loved using the Guinness World Record site and reading the stories. We solved a range of maths problems created from the data in the "Superlatives Posters"on the website. We used some pictures as inspiration for writing imaginative narratives.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? the children were able to use their mathematical knowledge and learning through our measurement unit to support them in using the measuring tape. They were able to use the recording sheet (though some required support) using their understanding of data re
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? future learning will be to front load the children with lots of possible new vocabulary prior to using the kit. Use Guiness World Record books to inspire learners and to make the connections across all curriculum areas.
How many DIY World Records did your class make?
How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The children in my class were able to measure using the measuring tables using the measuring units - cm, inches and metres. They were counting in minutes using the timers also on who took the longest to keep their card towers up.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It helped them describe their activities very well - using both the knowledge of actions in PE and their vocabulary in writing.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Definitely something I will repeat as it puts a fun real life context on measurement. Students have also gone on to create and compete in DIY World Record Championships.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Great for applying our measurement knowledge. Many students measured out how long their section was or timed how long they did something for.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Because this was at a time of the Commonwealth Games we: Researched about the Commonwealth games, athletes, the various sports, Birmingham, mascots etc. In literacy/Art we researched and made posters about the NZ athletes. Created our own games following

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? In mathematics children thought about all the different ways of measuring and had to decide which one was best for their needs. If they chose the wrong option they discussed why. We reflected on how the games went and things they would change or adapt.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? It got the children thinking about ways to reduce or increase numbers. We also used this information to work out class averages

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This kit helped us to explore other countries, cultures and languages as we learnt about the commonwealth games.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Looking back at history especially measurement of dinosaurs which became a favourite thing to do in my class. It also lead to us exploring the different heights of each student.
How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? My students had tactile resources to explore and use. This made them curious and I began hearing lots of mathematical language being used in my New Entrant class.

The timing of this kit was appropriate for my aakonga they enjoyed exploring the resources included in this kit. Our focus this term was measurement and time so they fitted in really well with our unit and planning.
