Many of the students learned what a superlative is. Computational thinking - creating step by step rules around the ‘how’. Breaking down the activity and thi
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? If this was to be done again, the students could use their devices more to record a demonstation of the activity so contenders could see how the world record should be attempted. How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The students had to think about how the superlative related to the measurement. E.g. How to measure longest or fastest. What do we use? They had to use their units of measurement e.g. cm, minutes, seconds or counting the pieces.

The DIY World Record kit was well received by our year 3 and 4 classes. They enjoyed the autonomy of creating their own world record and the challenge of participating in breaking them. The materials supplied in the kit were well made and by supplimenting the recording sheets with photocopying, the one kit did all 10 classes.

Brilliant, the children loved coming up with crazy records to break, and trying them out. They were quite competitive too. Recording information and working together were both focuses, also various units for measurement. The equipment in the box was pretty awesome... and useful!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The class has asked if we can repeat the record-breaking day. I think it will definitely be a task that can be repeated with the class later in the year. Perhaps seeing if we can break the records we have set or come up with new ideas.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? There was a variety of methods used for measuring the results. We had just finished a unit on measurement so it was a great way to reinforce units of measurement. Children chose their own unit of measurement. We had non-standard units used, minute timers,

The kids really enjoyed coming up with their own records. It challenged children to work together and revise and refine their records when there were issues. We loved the resources. Children could plan and create their records easily. The records varied from netball shots, walking with a book on your head, sprints, tongue twisters, and squats saying silly words.

Great kit and students loved it trying all the records. The materials provided really were helpful and engaging. However my young students (Yr1) found it hard to write challenges without lots of support and I found it challenging without senior buddies to support record attempts. Would recommend this kit for Yr3's and up or for collaboration between ages.

The students really enjoyed learning about the different terms in a world record and then creating their own. We spread this over a few weeks and was good to be able to get them all involved. At the end we had a celebration and the students talked about some of the skills their classmates had that they didn't know about!
