This kit supported our current unit of inquiry where our students explored setting up and taking on challenges. This was fun, engaging and entertaining. Lots of learning about ourselves along the way.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It was good to choose world records where the kids were surprised by the results. Not all events were won by the favourites. It really encouraged everyone to have a go.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will explore some of the maths concepts in term 4. This is not a kit that has a finite end.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The minute timers were a real hit, they really engaged and held the childrens interests. We enjoyed doing a trial run, practising and seeing if we improved. Watching other kids ideas gave us extra ideas.

Introducing children to different ways of recording results, time, distance, etc. Finding and exploring how to make it even for all participants so this could be fair. With very young children modifying tasks to make it a challenge that could be achieved and give a feeling of satisfaction.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We made links to literacy, math and PE/health. We loved researching world records and looking through the Guinness World Record books to see what language was used and to get ideas for our records.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We'll probably create new records to attempt next term when the weather is nicer and we can spend more afternoon time outside.

We had a blast creating our own, slightly silly, world records. It was a fantastic afternoon activity. We'll likely continue/create new records to attempt next term when the weather is nicer.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? This has been a good way to introduce measurement (the different types) to the children. We are going to be looking at measurement next term, so will carry over some of this learning to that unit.

A bright and well stocked kit, the children enjoyed looking at the items in it and it got their attention. I like how the kit broke down the requirements/criteria for world records, it fostered a lot of discussion with my class on what records could be done and why.

My class of Y0-Y1 students really got into breaking their own records. They came up with some fun ideas and worked with their big buddies. Some of the records were longest handstand to the biggest model car collection. Obviously these were in the context of our class not the World.
