What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? All our challenges has a physical element, as this seemed to be the easiest for our students to grasp when creating their record (the most/the fastest featured highly on our challenges!)
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will keep making records! What a great kit! Our hub was super enthusiastic to make up their own challenges. As a Learning through Play school, this worked well for our morning block- students were able to run their challenge each morning and took great delight in swapping badges as they moved up the ranks! Our teacher is a bit crazy, so she bought DIY world record certificates from Creative Classrooms and the top 3 place holders got to wear a medal for the day- which resulted in lots of chats about fair play and respectfully changing medals!!

The kit meant learning could be hands on and engaging. Different students could take on different roles (i.e timer, official). The kids were excited to know what the next world record would be and it was great to trial records that meant a vast range of kids would come out on top.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Even children who don’t enjoy sport were keen to participate and try and set a record. The loved earning their badge and working out who got what place.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children are highly interested in the world record books in the library and have grown a lot in positive ways to encourage everyone.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? We had to work out reasonable units of time to attempt each record - long enough to give it a good go, but short enough so that everyone got a turn.

The children absolutely loved this. We all set individual records and then as a class chose three that we could all do as a class. We went with: how many basketball shots you could get in in 30 seconds, how many times you can write the word ‘dog’ in 20 seconds and the last one was how quickly can you make a classmate laugh. Great fun by all!!

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Students realised the sand timers were for 30 seconds, and realised they needed to flip it twice to measure one minute. It was great to see different techniques on being critical thinkers.

This was an awesome opportunity to really delve into some different aspects of being critical thinkers. They particularly liked using words like superlative and recognising different ones attached to each world record. They made their own world records and enjoyed trialling what was successful and what may need to change to make it more achievable for everyone. It was an awesome kit with everything included that you needed.

This encouraged them to have a go at creating a physical activity like skipping or shooting hoops within a time frame. Creativity was b

We have been looking at maybe doing a challenge across our team or school to see who could break our records. Some students created Kahoo

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? We used measurement, statistics, and number throughout this unit. Students learned about time and measuring it, using a variety of measurement units, graphing and discussing their findings. There was so much maths to be had in this one kit.

My class has been very engaged in this kit. We used it as a follow on from the Birmingham games which worked really well. Students loved finding some of the weirdest records set and checking out records set by animals. We learned alot about how records are measured and what is considered a world record. I will definitely use this kit again.

The kids were really excited about the kit. They found it hard for a start to come up with how to word world records and rein them in to be manageable to measure and complete.
