How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? We spent a lot of time on measurement and used it to explore lots of different ways to graph data

What are three words that describe the activities in this kit? Engaging, encouraging and exploring

What was the most unique record achieved and why? Longest finger, this came about as we had just finished a unit on the human body. This first record was how the students started to explore lots of different things, and we used this to springboard into learning about superlatives.

“This was a great kit as it linked into our topic of paralympics really well and integrating mathematics throughout. It was a great way to explore all the vocabulary connected to sport. It was also great to have extension through the tamariki coming up with their own mini games.”

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Measuring and recording was a bit hit and miss but when we turned it into a competition the effort and accuracy improved. Measuring and timing were great skills to develop. We also calculated things like m/s and how much faster they needed to be to equal records.

“We ran this kit with 2 x classes of 30 kids at Year 3/4. Learners created their own olympic challenges. This was awesome for integrating Maths and sport and keeping the learners active and creative.”

What was the most unique record achieved and why? We enjoyed many, but i would say the most successful and achievable with funny and measurable results was - fastest time to say the alphabet whilst doing jumping jacks.

The students were so excited to make records of their own and enjoyed all of the different roles the kit allowed.
