The students enjoyed the kit and making records using the secret formula. The kit provided everything and I loved that the teacher guide made it easy to follow with the links.

What was the most unique record achieved and why? Most bear crawls done using one arm and two legs in 60 seconds while singing the alphabet backwards. This one definitely got the most laughs and the worst fails haha

My class really enjoyed this kit. We all loved the sectre formula to help us create some (very) wacky record challenges! The resources made the kit really engaging and my students could't wait to try and set, and then break each others records. There was something in this kit for every learning level.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The students were encouraged to expand their thinking and try different ways to figure things out that they may not have thought of, which has definitely helped encourage mathematical thinking for them.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lot's of ideas have come from this kit like how to introduce similar projects with other year levels and get the kids more immersed in tasks that encourage both thinking skills and physical activity.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? With all of the different measurement discussions, they were able to learn what was the best way to measure each record and to measure in different ways.

What are three words that describe the activities in this kit? Fun Learning Resilience
What was the most unique record achieved and why? Most were around the fastest time to complete something or the longest kick. The most unique would probably have been the highest sand castle made within 50 seconds with honey on your hands. Honey was then changed to soap as we didn't want to use honey. This was definitely an interesting challenge that not many groups wanted to try out.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Learning to positively interact with others - a lot of resilience and self control. This fits with our school expectations. Cross curricular to Literacy, Mathematics, and Topic based learning.
Students absolutely loved this kit. They were learning so much about winning, losing, trying, creating, recording, measuring, and way more. As they worked in pairs to attempt the records, they learnt how to communicate with each other more effectively and to be able to give someone else their attention.

What was the most unique record achieved and why? Quickest 25m run with a book on your head - combined skill and 'silly' element which was very popular with the class.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Links to sport, countries, sentences and figurative language as well as measurement. Co-operation and collaboration were evident too.
It was the perfect kit to use just after the Olympic games as my Year 5/6 class were engaged and interested in the world records that had been set by the athletes. They enjoyed the collaborative aspect of being in pairs to create their DIY record, and then sharing these with the class to attempt. The curriculum integration was excellent with an audience for the literacy aspect and real life application for maths. Thank you so much for all the online resources that could be used to support the tasks. The kit was so full of high quality objects to use! All of this saved so much time for me and was much appreciated.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The students recorded results, collated data and displayed it so they could share with others. We used the data to learn about mean, median, mode and range.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This learning did not stay within the term we had planned it for, it extended into the next term. It helped us to better understand and introduce the work we did around the Olympics and Paralympics.

What was the most unique record achieved and why? The quickest jumps backwards repetitively with a pencil moustache for 7M because this was a fun activity that the students could have gotten silly with but they took it really seriously.

The DIY World Records became the springboard for an amazing creative project where we had our year 5/6 students creating their own Olympic Sports. We used the basis of the kit for inspiration and used several of the activities to front load. The outcome was awesome. Our students then went on to teach their games to younger tamariki.

I thought the materials provided were super cute and definitely helped with student engagement. It was great to have active measurement lessons and relate Maths to English with superlatives etc.
