“This was a fabulous kit that my students really enjoyed exploring. Even though we are down in the South Island, the students loved learning more about places in the North Island. They also loved playing with the stamps and creating their own versions of the art. This kit tied in brilliantly with our school value of Kotahitanga and it led to some deep discussions about the different meanings and ways of collaboration.”

How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? They found it sad to discuss racism and how other people are treated differently because of where they come from. We are a very culturally diverse school so this was an important conversation.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Using local (NZ) artists and looking further into the messages the art is conveying as a focus for further art lessons. Equipping students with the awareness of using the visual art as a way to share important messages.
