The children loved this kit! They enjoyed the science behind it, the weighing (learning about cause and effect) and of course the eating. Many were surprised that they liked their cake! I think they were expecting it to be bland or taste of vegetables. I did find I had to use a bit of class consumables to pay for the food we needed (particularly eggs). However, I would love to do this kit again :)

This kit was excellent and fitted in well with our Science Unit on Matter. The students loved the opportunity to test their 'experiments' and although they didn't all work out, the process was a lot of fun and highlighted the science beautifully, along with the bonus of encouraging healthy eating.

The students enjoyed making vegetable cakes. Though they found the tastes to be bit bland. I found out from other teachers that the best combo was either savoury or sweet. The kids sort of went off on their own ideas and asked to make hummus using one of the cans. Which we did. They all loved the hummus on bread.

My tamariki really enjoyed their vegetable cake learning experiences. I especially love how it integrated into so many areas of the curriculum. I probably didn't give my self enough time to do it justice with reports and conferences etc. But hei aha. These are the things that kids remember from school. Thank you School Kit!

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Our class really enjoyed this unit. It was our first proper go at baking - we integrated it with a volume unit in maths and had at look at the chemistry of a cake! We have just built a brand new kitchen at school and we were the first class to get to use the space.
