Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I only like sweet things in cake. I did not realise that you can replace the sweet things for vegetables. The beetroot cake was a cool colour. I had no idea of the liquid in fruit or in a egg. This was good as it was sciencey and yum. Blake P. Year 8. Thank you for the kit - this was a cool kit as it involved eating. I liked that it was maths but not like class maths - the measuring was fun. It was cool to see all the different cakes and to rate them out of 5 on the taste, look, etc. Lucy B. Year 7.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The receipe trial poster and cards - very visual and easy to use.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? This will spill over into the learners cooking /baking /sharing their knowledge from this kit with home.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost - I do feel it is easy for some whanau to eat convienence food. Some learners would not have access to the ingredients needed.
This was a great kit - very well-resourced and excellent supporting teaching notes. This was a hit as it was not only food but a lot of hands on science. There was intial reluctance to entertain the idea of peas, corn, chickpeas or beetroot in a cake. This worked in nicely with our maths as we looked at the volume of liquid in the tinned fruits and veges as well as eggs. We split into 4 groups - group 1 looked at removing the 80grams of cake mixture and using chickpeas and corn. Group 2 used beetroot and peas, group 3 - apple and group 4 used pears and berries. The Pak n Save voucher was very handy for purchasing different ingredients. We had varying success in the bubbles but this was a hit. All of our cakes were eaten and to be honest - the vegetable ingredients were of a better consistency than the fruit based. This was one of the best school kits I have used for engagement of 30 Year 7/8 learners. Thanks so much Nestle, Pak n Save and School Kit NZ.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I really liked the corn in them. I didn't think I'd like beetroot in a muffin but it was ok.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I loved trying to put vegetables in our cake, it's a pity it turned out so squishy because the pumpkin actually tastes good! 'We should have kept some sugar in the cake because it says here that the sugar helps the bubbles to form."
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The concept of adding vegetables to a favourite food was the most powerful - it made the students consider what it is that they are eating when they have cake, and ways that they can change their eating habits to a more healthy option without too much impact on flavour.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Trying new foods can be fun - don't believe everything you've been told.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom? In the short time it has made them consider what's in what they're eating. Some students have said they are going to try to substitute some ingredients for vegetables at home. We had quite a few chats about savoury cakes and muffins, where vegetables are already incorporated, like zucchini muffins.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health? That vegetables don't always have to taste the way they do when eaten individually.

What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Most likely their main barrier is their home situation - they eat what their families provide for them. This is highly variable.
Thank you so much for this kit - you have made it so easy for us to complete a kitchen science series of lessons with our classes. The children were engaged, creative and occasionally grossed out, and a few of them even tried a new food!

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them A complete turn around from when we first received the package of tinned vegetables! "I didn't think these would taste so good!" "Can I take the recipe home... I want to make these at home?" "Yum... we should've made more!"

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Maybe include some feedback from other children and schools. I did have a little bit of a challenge trying to get the kids motivated once they saw all the tinned veges.... majority of class are farming. Peer comments could be helpful and funny!
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? A few struggle to make ends meet. However, we are fortunate that in our community their is a free fresh fruit and vegetable stand in the township. Our school also has wonderful volunteers who plant and tend to our vegetable garden and these are also available for free to families.
"Vegetables in a cupcake?" My year 4 students cried! "Is this a science experiment?" "I'm not eating that!" Surprisingly, the second round of baking after a few tweaks and adjustments proved to be absolutely delicious! Our learning spanned across maths, science, technology, art and health as well as positive student interactions and fun. Brilliant!
