Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them A complete turn around from when we first received the package of tinned vegetables! "I didn't think these would taste so good!" "Can I take the recipe home... I want to make these at home?" "Yum... we should've made more!"
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Recipe and problem solving. Each student was able to make a prediction and rearrange the ingredients to meet the learning criteria as well as test their ideas in a real kitchen!
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Vegetables might look yukky but they are much healthier than sugar! Surprisingly, beetroot was the winner!
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom? Excellent. Some children had never tasted chickpeas, cupcakes without icing or beetroot.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health? Many have their own apple trees so they were keen to substitute apples in other recipes. They took home their most tastiest recipe to bake for their families.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Maybe include some feedback from other children and schools. I did have a little bit of a challenge trying to get the kids motivated once they saw all the tinned veges.... majority of class are farming. Peer comments could be helpful and funny!
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? A few struggle to make ends meet. However, we are fortunate that in our community their is a free fresh fruit and vegetable stand in the township. Our school also has wonderful volunteers who plant and tend to our vegetable garden and these are also available for free to families.
"Vegetables in a cupcake?" My year 4 students cried! "Is this a science experiment?" "I'm not eating that!" Surprisingly, the second round of baking after a few tweaks and adjustments proved to be absolutely delicious! Our learning spanned across maths, science, technology, art and health as well as positive student interactions and fun. Brilliant!

We had so much fun with this kit. It promoted discussion and questions such as Do we need sugar in our baking? Could we get used to the taste of less sugar? Would we encourage others to try our vegetable muffins? Why?

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Collaborate with local health and well-being organisations to provide additional support and resources for both the school and the whānau. These partnerships can expand the impact of the kit. Assign homework or projects that require students to involve their family members. For example, they could cook a healthy meal together, create a family fitness plan, or conduct a wellness survey within the family.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? The cost of living is causing a barrier to heathy eating.
Who would have thought that vegetables could be so tasty! My students really enjoyed this School Kit. We started the unit after a visit from Food for Thought so my students were tuned in to how unhealthy sugar can be.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them We have children from a lot of different cultures in our hub. This kit prompted a lot of discussion about food from different cultures and how it differs to food in NZ. The children are working on creating their own recipe book with cultural food, modified to be healthier options (reducing sugar etc). It's great to see the ideas they have from this kit, and how it continues to impact their thinking.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The recipe design cards were great. It made it easier for the children to see where they could make substitutions - scaffolded their thinking well. They've provided great talking and discussion points.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Definitely supported our inquiry topic well. The legacy is in the thinking that our learners have done, and in their understanding that they can modify recipes themselves.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom? Very effective. The children want to share their learning with others, and are thinking about how they might modify traditional food from different cultures.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health? The children are wanting to modify traditional food from their cultures. This will lead to lots of discussion at home I imagine! The children also want to produce recipe cards for their modified cultural recipes to share with other children in the class.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? As previously mentioned - the children want to focus on their own traditional cultural dishes. I think this focus helps to create a sense of community, and also shows that we are recognising and valuing the cultural background of our learners. It's a great opportunity for parents to make connections with each other, and provides a shared experience and talking point.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Mainly cost and ease of preparation. As part of our inquiry for the year there are other groups of children who are planting vegetable plants for the children to share and take home in summer. Hopefully this will help a little to ease the financial pressure. Our inquiry this year has created a sense of the 'cool factor' around healthy eating, and this kit has also helped to promote this idea.
This was a well prepared and well resourced kit. The resources in the kit were good quality, and there was lots of supporting information for teachers available online. This kit provided some meaningful and authentic opportunities for science teaching, and was used to support our inquiry topic of 'food'. We used this kit with a small group who were focused on developing healthy recipes, and wanting to promote the idea of healthy eating to their peers. The children were motivated by their experiences with vegetable cake, and are going on to explore how they might modify other recipes to make them healthier.
