Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Keyarn: I can't believe I couldn't taste the corn! It was cool doing lots of cooking. Samuel: It was interesting to find out how using the veges instead of different things made the cake dry or nicer.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The recipe design cards were great because they were pictorial so easy to use for all learning abilities.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom? The students had meaningful discussions about healthy eating and how you need to try to include more vegetables in your diet, with vege cakes being a delicious way to do this.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health? The disbelief factor! Most of them didn't believe that they could make a cake they liked, with veges in it so they were keen to prove it to family members!

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? It can help whānau eat healthier. Many people struggle to eat enough veges. Making cakes with vegetables is a fun and delicious way to get more vegetables into your diet. When tamariki are involved in preparing food, they are more likely to eat it and cooking together can bring whānau together. Spending time together in the kitchen is a great way to bond with your whānau..
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? I think lack of parental knowledge about how to cheaply prepare and then start children on the journey to healthy eating is the main barrier. It becomes more difficult to try to include veges in family diets after children become used to not eating them.
My special needs students had a fantastic time learning about the science of cake making. It was easy to follow and flexible with it's learning opportunities.

This kit formed the basis of our Term 3 Inquiry. Students became scientists, bakers, creators, designers, and team players as they worked through the various aspects of this kit. It was great to see students experience different roles and as a teacher, to see students take the lead or share skills who don't often get opportunities to shine.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them My mum said because the muffins had vegetables in them we could make them at home. We ate them all in 1 day. I liked finding out about the vegetables you could put in cakes. Some were yummy but some were yuck. I don't like carrots but cake was really nice.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The chemistry information because it gave the students a real insight into the reasons why some ingredients worked better than others and how the process of baking actually worked. It was interesting that once the students had learned and understood the scientific vocabulary they used it all the time. E.G. carbon dioxide rather than saying bubbles. The recipe review sheets were also great as it allowed the students to have a focus on how to effectively review their recipe rather than just commenting about the taste. It made them think at a deeper level

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Giving students the t5ools to support their whanau. One of the students said we should invite our parents to come and cook with us. (something to consider in the future)
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost of healthy ingredients and knowledge on how to coo them and use them.
The students worked in groups when making the vegetable cakes and they became focused on using different vegetables than any of the other groups. The best part was how students involved their whanau in their decision-making about what vegetables they could try and what would work best and why. It even led to some experimenting at home and bringing samples to school. Chocolate cake with beetroot was a real hit which turned into muffins and different options for icing. Cream cheese was voted the best.
