“I am excited to try adding the vegetables and see what changes we need to make because of this.” “Can we have this much fun in science all the time - I feel like a wizard making a new potion”. “ When you add the vegetable, it is important to make sure that you balance the wet and dry ingredients so that the recipe works”.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
The link to maths - measurement, and having to read and adjust ingredients based on these. The scales sent were a great help with this! All the added extras that supported the kit - for example, the chemistry of cake poster and recipe design cards.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
That learning can be fun!! Math is an essential and integral skill. Healthy eating can be delicious. Collaboration is important.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom?
It made children realise the importance of vegetables in our diet and how they can be integrated into our diet. They were initially disgusted before making the cakes to think that corn and beetroot could be part of a cake, but when they tried it, we’re so surprised that it tasted good. So now, all are more willing to try new things.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health?
The importance of a balanced diet. Vegetables are versatile and adding healthy components to food can be delicious! Sugar can be reduced in food to make it healthier.
