Angela: When you use vegetables it can make food taste good as an ingredient, not just yuck. Sam: I learned to work in a team. I learnt that I can bake things muself not just buy them from countdown, baking it myself is better. Tim: it was an example of an experiment and I like experiments Damon: I was nervous about what they might taste like using less vegetables and reducing sugar
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
The recipe, the poster to display, the inclusion of the ingredients and the gift card. Although it didn't entirely cover the cost of eggs, it was nice to get something.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
Using vegetables is way to reduce sugar. Using beetroot and kūmara changed the colour the of the cupcakes. We had lots of fun measuring and making our own recipe. Kūmara can be used for cooking in sweet things not just savoury. It was a fun science project.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom?
We were able to use less sugar in a recipe by including vegetables. Using less sugar you can still make tasty food.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health?
Shared their learning that they were making cupcakes with less sugar, and that food with less sugar works. Excited to share learning at home, that they were making 'cupcakes with Kūmara'. Vegetables can be put into sweet things.
