How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Replacing chippie packets with a home backed muffin that has fibre and fruit/veges in it.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? When a single parent doesn't own a car and doesn't want to drag their kids out on a bus to get groceries, a trip to the dairy is a survivable option. Be nice to see the odd muffin sent to school woth tjhe sachet of 'add boiling water' soup/noodles.
We did this once per week over a few weeks. Great fun, you do need to have some baking experience, and equipment. It was pretty crazy with 25 in groups of 3-4 in a normal classroom but the kids loved it so it was worth the effort. We used to kick off science fair so we emphasised the repeatability, variables, testing, following the scientific method, evaluating etc. Def recommend, advise you to resources yourself with a whizz stick to blend the apple, beetroot etc. Big thanks to School Kit for the resources and taking us out of our comfort zone. The supporting paper work and Evaluation Forms were great as well. You can really extend this, and a bit of research first into things such as egg alternatives is useful to extend curiosity.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? A cost comparision would be useful - if healthier was cheaper this could improve whānau wellbeing.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost
The resources and teaching material were helpful. The biggest issue for us was the extra cost for ingredients. For the 3 classes (95 students) at our school, we spent an extra $100 on ingredients. Mostly on eggs, avocadoes and butter. Information about other fats to use would have been useful - I only thought at the end about substituting butter for other fats not just vegetable fats. Other fats would certainly have been cheaper and healthier.
