The students loved the hands on experience. We did in small groups which worked really with with cooperating and sharing the resourcers. I would love to do this again with my class this year or next year. I think the students have not had much experience with cooking at home so this definetly helped. Some then have shared photos of what they have gone on to make with their parents.

The students were really interested in how vegetables can go into cakess and muffins. As the teacher I was surprized at how many of my students had not tasted Beetroot. The students really enjoyed and buzzed out on the actual making of them. They got to learn value information around doing a group relflection on how they went.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Thinking about how much sugar everyday ingredients contain and looking for healthier alternatives.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost of living, willingness to try other flavours
This kit was a great opportunity to teach chemical reactions and for students to realise that science happens in their kitchen too, not just in a lab! A lot of students were dubious about adding vegetables in their cakes and most stuck at first to the more familiar taste of apples, but became more adventurous with their second attempt and some tested things for the first time. Some cakes worked well and others failed, so we had some great discussions about trial and error, just like scientists do. A fun kit to finish the year.
