Was neat to push the boundaries with the tamariki. Some of them didn't like the taste of the cake but I think that's because they couldn't get past it being vegetables. Mind over matter right?! A hit as usual. Thank you School kit!

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them "I really liked how we got design our own cakes but had to be careful to have the right ingredients to make is rise, to give it the right texture and to taste okay." Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The variety of options for replacing the sugar - gave good options to the students to choose. The scales were an excellent addition as they were sensitive so the students were able to be careful with the measurements. Having the new world voucher helped also. The base recipe sheet was good to see what ingredients did in the cakes and we used this to plan our next trials.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Some children went home after our sessions and baked for their family using different alternatives to sugar which was great. The students had a fresh awareness about healthy eating and about one way this can be done.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost of fruit and vegetables is a barrier for some of our students, also the change in thinking for some of their parents in terms of impacts of processed foods.
This was a brilliant School kit for my class. It incorporated the science along with the promotion of healthy eating. I liked the 'control' cake aspect and then the planning and carrying out of their 'design's. All the students were very aware of the importance of reducing sugar, but were very keen on making sure taste was at the forefront. We discussed costings as well of replacement ingredients.
