I used a contractor, A S Force Construction that didnt finish the job completely (re-plastering wall paper) and then ceased all contact with me without providing an invoice, even though I asked several times, they just ignored my calls and messages.
I informed check a trade, left a review for this company and their "investigation" amounted to speaking to the company, who lied that they've never heard of me. So check a trade took their word for it, deleted my review and closed the case as concluded, without doing any proper investigating.”

“You have remember when using these types of online rating agencies they get their funding from advertising and the companies themselves. So reviews tend to err toward the paymaster. Itโs a sad fact. “As we have moved to a new area we used checkatrade for the first time. We did not receive a written invoice . The checks and balances which check a trade claim are actually not done. Very disappointing and we will not use again.”
“The builder i used had 5 star reviews. He was a gypo. His work was apauling. He left a mess of building materials all over the outside of the house. It was left in a dangerous condition with sharp edges on the metal he cut. He actually put self levelling compount on a door step. He wanted half the money up front, bank transfered to a personal account not the business name.
I dare not complain to him for fear of reprisals.

“The thing to remember with Checkatrade is that they rely on having trades people on their books. The consequence of this is you will very rarely find a negative customer review of one of the companies who use them. The company i used let me down but Checkatrade would not publish a negative review but instead claimed they would "monitor" the company. So just beware when reading all those glowing reviews.”

“I recently had a very bad experience with a property refurbishment company. However, when I came to leave a review, I could not actually fault the company when leaving feedback on the categories detailed by Check-a-Trade, such as 'reliability and time keeping.' The company was reliable! We were charged as quoted! What we didn't realize was the mark-up the company was making, charging us ยฃ10k for windows which cost them ยฃ5k. They also tried to get us to pay extra certain parts went wrong, we did however challenge this. The company in question has 100% scores of 10 across he board. Most of these are their commercial clients. Very biased.”
“I found a Plumber through your services. He came and he said he would purchase the taps for the sink but said that I could if I wanted to. I explained that I did not know which one and if they were the wrong ones then I would exchange them. He fitted them and they were the wrong ones of course. So I asked him to come back and change them. On that visit the switch was left on and the immersion heater was boiling and bubbling which was very scary as I have never touched this switch. When I eventually got hold of him he said to follow the wire and find the switch and switch it off, which I did. Since April 2015 we have had no hot water and the toilets are not filling up and flushing properly. When flushed they are making such a noise all through the house. He promised to come back after being away in Scotland and have not heard from him since. I have asked if he knows anyone else he could recommend but no replies to my phone calls or texts to date.
