No Stars, worst experience as a business owner. You are being locked into a contract for a year and cannot cancel at any time unless you pay for the whole contract which costs me £1166.40 (vat included). We have been approached at FIT Show 2022 by their sales people to try for free 2 month their services and can be cancelled at any time. We fell for it and gave our details and after trying them for a month decided it is not for us and it is not worth the money. They said we cannot cancel as the 14 days cooling off period has passed (they give you 2 months free only for this cooling off period to pass) . After tens of emails and phone calls we got the final response: There is nothing we can do, you cannot speak to a Manager, if you do not pay we will have to get the debt collectors involved. AVOID at all costs and if you are lucky enough to be still in the 14 day cooling off period send them an email immediately that you want to cancel.

Please spell check and grammar If I could give a one star review I would. I have been with this company 7 year’s advertising and after someone online saying they had been over charged I then looked at my dd. It had gone up to £480 pcm so I called them up and asked them for a breakdown. This happened numerous times of them lying and that they would send a invoice over or that I have been over charged and I will be refunded. I eventually told them that I will cancel the direct debit as I wasn’t given an answer. A few months later I get a letter off solicitors saying they are taking me to court. I had never signed any agreement since I started either and then they carried on charging me and now are threading court. Each time I call the office I waste over 1 hour of my life. They don’t vet the trades and half of them on the site are cowboys, they just want to take your money every month and when you ask what it’s for it’s impossible to get an answer. If you’re a tradesman stay away from these guys for advertisement shocking back end office and systems in place. DO NOT USE

I was conned on the phone into joining Checkatrade. I have had no work and am now threatened with court action for wanting to leave this company as it's a one year verbal contract. Avoid at all cost. This scammers are appalling and should be banned.

Checkatrade used to be good before Homeserve got involved. Our enquiries died a sudden death! Needless to say we cancelled our membership and have moved on to better things. We are now registered with the Better Business Group (BBG) and have been for two years and we would highly recommended them. We have recently been inundated with calls from Checkatrade asking us to re-join.... not a chance! Don't waste your time or money!!

A Disappointing Experience with Checkatrade - Beware! I recently had the displeasure of using Checkatrade, and I feel compelled to warn others about my experience with this company. What initially seemed like a promising platform turned out to be nothing more than a scam. Despite their assurances of providing numerous job opportunities and a valuable service, I quickly discovered that Checkatrade is owned by Homeserve, and it appears that they reserve the best jobs for themselves. The jobs I was offered through the platform were low-quality and undesirable. It became evident that many large businesses using Checkatrade only pay for the lowest membership tier to have their name listed, rather than utilizing the platform for actual job opportunities. When I realized I wasn't getting value for my money, I encountered further issues. Even if Checkatrade is in default of the agreement, they will aggressively pursue any outstanding payments, resorting to underhanded tactics like sending letters to the wrong address to secure a default court win. They employ an unscrupulous company called Shoosmiths to carry out these actions, and you may even face high court enforcement officers. The entire ordeal is incredibly stressful. Moreover, if you miss payments or have a paperwork query due to their own administrative errors, Checkatrade will freeze your account but still continue to charge you monthly fees. In my case, when I initially signed up and tried to go live on the platform, they took my money but failed to activate my account for weeks, citing a clerical error. Communication with their customer service was a nightmare; the representatives were unhelpful and seemingly uninformed. Overall, I would advise against using Checkatrade. There are better alternatives out there, such as Yell, that offer a more reliable and professional service. Save your time, money, and sanity by avoiding this company

Awful! I was mis-sold something over the phone that turned out to be very different in practise I stated i wasn't happy but they didn't want to know. Once they think they've tied you in that's it... I got no support, no jobs,nothing.. So i am now going to court because how can i be expected to pay for something I haven't used?? It would be like Netflix chasing me for a years membership if i cancelled... Balls to them I am willing to see this out because it's criminal. They promise the earth on the phone yet the service isn't what I got therefor I shouldn't be expected to pay... simple

If your a tradesman stay away from checkatrade, all they want is your money and give you nothing in return. Just look at they negative reviews growing to answer what there really like. I been a tradesman for 20 years and have never worked with such a poor company, they encourage fake reviews to build your profile.

BEWARE SCAMMERS - I am a Tradesmen This Company is a scam for tradesmen and customers If you are a Tradesmen, keep well away from this company, they are mis selling their contracts, they sent a guy out to our company a shoddy salesmen, claimed he could get us 72 phone calls if we paid £1488 per month, I got two phone calls in a month, and loads of emails that were worthless. They even lied and changed our start date, they started the contract the day after we closed down over christmas then began blasting us with messages, no phone calls just messages, then told me after Christmas that those emails were classed as my 72 hits, they put out 50+ messages when our business was closed. We then told them we not happy with this contract your scamming us, they said or we will get it sorted, but never did. This company is a scamming company, if you notice all the bad reviews are coming from the tradesmen who have signed on, their good reviews are coming from the customers. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAMMING COMPANY FOR TRADESMEN AND NEEDS INVESTIGATING BY GOVERNMENT THESE LOT. You should know something is wrong when your a builder and they trying to force you into a contract to bind you in for a year. They don't provide you with the service they claim during sign up. This company needs investigating for fraud. If you are a customer beware, they are charging way over the odds when they are showing you price work from the tradesmen, everything is way over priced on their website and the customers don't realised they are being scammed, as the tradesmen have to charge those prices to pay off the bill to these scam artists. Worst company we have ever dealt with, they do not have a complaints department as they claim, the number goes straight through to salesmen. They have stole £1488 out of our account, we have been on the phone for 4 days repeatedly trying to speak to cancallation department, but they don't have one, they hide behind salesmen and don't answer so they can continue stealing money. Im at the point im going to take them to court and use all these reviews on this page for tadesmen as evidence to prove they are scamming the tradesmen using the same methods over and over. They know their system isn't working for tradesmen but they continue to use scammy salesmen who tell lies to get you roped into a contract. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!!! THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE!!!

If I could give no stars I would. Check a trade are not actually worth the marketing they put out. My mother is presently on an end of life pathway and I wished to make the garden safe for her final summer. I booked someone on their recommendation only to find out when the tradesman showed up made our garden even more unsafe that he was taken off panel due to multible complaints. Check a trade said as not on panel any more. After advice from the police; bank; action fraud and the CAB consumer advice telling me that check a trade should assist they initially looked to step in to assist in getting out money back. When I was in the phone the line was disconnected as they said as works started would look to honour their £1,000 promise only to have the line disconnect and multible calls back to reconnect did not get a urgent call back and a week later basically said not out problem as not on panel and seek your own independent legal advice. I would not recommend that you look to take on board that these company are vetted like advised as it seems as long as someone pays a fee check a trade will verify them. Please be wary of working under the assumption that theses companies are honourable people that have been vetted. I feel just awful thay my mother's last summer has been ruined as the garden was left in even more unsafe state as the man ripped up the paving slabs and the hand rails that the council put in for her. Check a trade should be ashamed of how they have conducted themselves. I can only hope that i can find someone to make the area safe so my mom can have some opportunity to be able to go outside before she passes.

Used a recommended trader for landscaping on checkatrade (clean cut lawn services). They charged me twice for same materials, my son in law noticed as two invoice numbers were the same, the garden has now sank after 9 months and checkatrade are refusing to give me the £1000 guarantee as they say the work will cost more than £1000

My recommendation is - do not call these people to join. It is an absolute rip off. Each person you speak to gives you a different story. If you join and find it is not suited to you try and cancel your account - you get lied to, passed from pillar to post, told 'sorry, you are signed up for a year now!' All they want is your money, after that it's all about keeping you as a customer, no matter how dissatisfied you are with the service. AVOID!!!!

The builder i used had 5 star reviews. He was a gypo. His work was apauling. He left a mess of building materials all over the outside of the house. It was left in a dangerous condition with sharp edges on the metal he cut. He actually put self levelling compount on a door step. He wanted half the money up front, bank transfered to a personal account not the business name. I dare not complain to him for fear of reprisals. I'll never trust check a trade again.

I've been Checkatrade member as a decorator (sole trader) since 2009. It was really good until HomeServe bought it, which I didn't know about until I was up for renewal. Since then I hardly get any enquiries from them, my membership fee tripled from approximately £800 to £2400 but after much complaining it was reduced to double (approx £1600 per annum). I get more work from recommendations and free listings. They've also completely changed the layout of each members page and no longer display the trades own contact details. Looking at my own page it shows numbers I never knew about!!! Tradesmen/women; if you are thinking of joining don't bother. It's now become a waste of time and money. What a shame.
