“Recently bought a 500g box of Special Toffee, after reading on the box that it was made to their traditional recipe … referencing a fabulously chewy texture.
After biting it the first piece of toffee, I spat it out thinking it was either ‘off’ or past it’s sell by date, only to then go online and read the comments made by others about the changes made by Ferrero, who, in my opinion, are clearly falsely advertising their product!
I certainly won’t be buying again.”

“My husband loved this toffee and bought some for my grown up children as part of their Easter presents. It tastes like cheap toffee nothing like it was. I'm really disappointed and won't even give it as presents. Definitely will never order again. What a shame.”

“I looked forward to trying Thorntons Special Toffee chewy over Christmas 2025. What a big disappointment. The flavour has changed from the unique morish smooth taste to something that resembled the toffees I used to get in Lucky bags in the 1960's. For goodness sake go back to the original superb recipe, this stuff tastes cheap and not particularly pleasant on the palate.

“My husband has always loved the Thorntons Special Toffee, we have bought it for birthdays, Christmas etc for many, many years. He opened his packet yesterday (Christmas Day 2025), and thought we had bought him fudge by mistake. This new recipe is unpleasant and fudge like, with the odd bit of harder toffee in the mixture, so a weird consistency. Thorntons you really need to change the recipe back, we will not be buying this again as it is just unpleasant and disappointing. We will be finding a new supplier of proper old fashioned toffee for the future.”
