This company is fraudulent. Buyer beware! I ordered from Backcountry a few times in the past with no issues. Decent prices and fast enough shipping so I had saw no issue with using them again. I ordered a pair of $100 Prana pants and within a day or two they sent an email stating they were shipped. The package arrived at my house and there was nothing inside but shipping filler. The person packing my order had apparently forgot to actually pack my order. I inspected the package and found no sign of tampering. Contacting customer service was the most insulting experience I have ever had. They basically accused me of lying and said there was NOTHING they could do about this. Never once even considering that their employee could have made a shipping mistake. Just the blaming and washing their hands of any responsibility. This is by far the biggest shopping fraud I have ever experienced and WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever witnessed. I am filing a police report and have contacted my credit card for a charge back, and reporting to the better business bureau. All this over a $100 pair of pants! Ridiculous! I'm spreading the word so no one else gets ripped off! Buyer beware!!!

Do not order from Backcountry. I ordered four jackets to try on for the upcoming ski season. My package was never delivered and I've been disputing the $1,434 charge with Backcountry for 4 weeks now. I've spoken to 5 different representatives. They said it is above the threshold of paying me back, so now I'm in the middle of disputing it with my credit card. Backcountry is not worth the hassle, you are better off ordering from a different company. Their customer service is terrible.

Normally you will have an easy experience with this company. I've ordered several cycling items over a period of years. I travel a lot and ship to many different locations. This time, I had to use PO box if they ship usps, or street address if they ship ups or FedEx. This totally confused them. Over 4 years several vendors have been able to successfully ship using this method. Three phone calls and nine days after placing my order, they figure out they are out of stock of this item I had ordered and was supposedly sitting in the shipping department. On the 2nd call, young guy didn't really want to be bothered much with customer issues. Calls 1 and 3, they tried to help. I'll be ordering from other places from now on. They never notified me about their not being able to ship. Order just sat and every few days I'd call and explain again what to do. Ordered a different $200 shoe from Mike's Bikes instead.

After years of buying products here, they flubbed a return, kept my money, and did nothing to remedy the situation. The money or the product... they kept both. I've stopped buying from them after 8+ years as a customer.

I bought ski pants from this company on Jan 13, 2023. Item was returned back on Wednesday, February 15 at 5:02 P.M. with return label they provided. 1ZA9Y0719095670838. After 3 weeks of waiting they did not refund my money. When I called the company, different agents started making up lies. One lady told me they didn't receive it and it went to different address and they have to do investigation. One minutes later supervisor Anthony complete investigation and stated they received something else. Another minute later he said the package was returned from another recipient. What a nonsense! Backcountry customer service refusing to issue refund for the item I returned weeks ago. I would like to get resolution ASAP. This is not acceptable!

Do not order from this company unless you enjoy pain and suffering. I could write a book about how this company screwed me but short version- they sent my coat to the wrong address (their error) and then had it sent back to Backcountry. I am jumping through hoops to get my money/refund that they have had for weeks. I have spent hours trying to resolve this issue to no avail. The worst on line shopping experience ever!!

Do not do business with this company. It’s one of the worse online shopping experiences that I have ever had! I ordered a coat weeks ago and they delivered it to the wrong address (mistake on their end) and I had to hound them to get my refund. It’s a long story but just rest assured it was a total pain in the but and took me a lot of time to deal with it. I highly do not recommend this company. Horrible customer service!

My last order was a nightmare. Ordered 2 pairs of bike shorts that were to small. Returned original and they sent me the same size back. Eventually returned all the shorts. Had 3 emails saying they received the returns and my refund was coming soon. It took over 2 months and 5 calls to get a partial refund. The last call was 1 hour and 33 minutes. They tried to say the shorts were returned used and dirty. One package was never opened and the other was tried on for less than 30 seconds. This will be my last order from Back Country.

Backcountry.com has gone downhill and their customer service sucks. They sent me the wrong item and I had to contact their customer service twice. The first time, the rep went MIA and the chat timed out. The second time, the rep was so slow to respond that there were multiple times during our chat that I thought it would time out again. Instead of just processing the exchange and sending me the product I had ordered, they ended up billing me twice and charging me tax twice on a sale that they messed up.

After reading the mixed reviews on BackCountry. com I wasn’t sure , but attracted by their competitive prices and their two days free shipping delivery I decided to place an order. Immediately after placing my order and despite the fact that I had received a notification from my credit card letting me know that there was a transaction the website said that there was an error placing my order. I was asked if I wanted to use a different form of payment. I attempted to chat with a representative but I was unsuccessful, therefore I decided to do the safest thing which was notifying BackCountry. com that if I do not receive my merchandise in two business days I will dispute the transaction. This website is even worst than I thought!

I’ve ordered three big ticket items from here. The last one was a Garmin Inreach mini. I ordered a brand new one. Shipping seemed pretty fast. It arrived on time. I check my mailbox. Noticed a soft package from backcountry. Hmmm, I thought. This doesn’t look right. I open it up and it’s a pair of size 2 women’s pants. I haven’t worn a size 2 since I was six months old. So I call customer service. She apologized and said she will personally get one herself and ship it in two days since I told her I ordered it to arrive by the weekend for a hiking trip. I then returned those tiny pants promptly. My Inreach mini arrives within the two days and I immediately notice the garmin box was not sealed with a little clear sticker. Uh oh. I open it, everything was already unpackaged and ripped open like a Sasquatch looking for jerky. Great...a return or “open box”. I paid for a brand new with brand new pricing. I did not pay for a used one at full price. I plug it in, turn it on, and I get to see who the pervious owner is...hello “Verle”. So I contact customer service again. The guy was very short, did the “uh huh” stuff while I was explaining the situation. Seemed like he wanted to get back to his beer or something. Big delay on the phone too. Anyway, he says ship it back and we will get you a knew one. Nothing offered for my troubles like a discount for my next purchase, nothing to keep me as a customer after going through all this hassle. So, they will not be getting “Verles” Inreach mini back until I get what I paid for and I will not purchase from them again in the future. Horrible customer service. Having to spend extra money to drive a half hour to the nearest UPS each time they can’t get it right, not too mention printing my own return label. Ink isn’t cheap ya know, nor gas right now.

Do not under any circumstances buy from them. They sent me an empty box instead of a garmin watch. Pretended to put in a new order. Customer service laughed at me when I explained, then they put me on hold and hung up. 0 Resolution.

Since they were bought out, the original Backcountry.com is no more. Replaced by arrogant sales staff who freely lie to customers, and could care less about how bad they fail. You've been warned.

I ordered a bike rack and sales person said i got lucky, the last one in stock. I purchased it hoping to get in this week for Memorial DAY weekend. No emails returned so i called to check. They sent my invoice but no tracking. Called back again and they said item on backorder as they sold the rack to someone else. They have no clue on leadtime, nor did they attmept to call me to let me know so i can look elsewhere. Totally bad customer service.

I placed an order with Backcountry.com on Tuesday, 07/09/19 for two shirts I need for a trip I’m leaving on Saturday, 07/13/19. The free 2day shipping should have left room to spare, but instead they completely left me in the lurch. A short timeline: - Although the order is placed on Tuesday, no confirmation is immediately sent. I have to get an order reference number from PayPal. - After placing the order but long before shipment one of the items is reduced in price. No refund of the difference is ever offered. - On Thursday I chat with an online rep. She informs me that the delivery will take 2 business days from shipping, which would be that afternoon. I tell her to cancel the order if it can’t be delivered by Friday, as it will no longer be of use. She states that she’s changing the service to overnight and that it will be there the next day. Neither of these things happen, but I do finally get email confirmation of the order. - On Friday I get an email that the order is shipping 2day service and will arrive on Tuesday. I immediately respond to cancel and catch the order. I receive a message back from Gearhead Trevor H. that they were going to intercept the shipment and that I’d be issued a full refund when they could confirm possession. These two things never take place. - On Tuesday, 07/16/19, while I am out of town, I receive an email that the shipment has been left on my doorstep. On the road, I speak with Gearhead Keith J. He asks when I’ll be home and how close I live to a UPS store. It will be my responsibility to return the items before a refund will be issued. Now, after twice telling them to cancel the order, I’m less then inclined to deliver this package back to UPS for them. After a bit of discussion, Backcountry reluctantly agreed to have it picked back up from my front porch. Still, they’ve yet to do a single thing that they’ve said, so I’ll probably just take it to the store. The real point is that they’re completely undependable, and they don’t seem to care. Missing a couple of quick dry shirts has been less than ideal, but it didn’t ruin the trip. If this had been a couple pieces of critical gear for a bike tour or whatever you’re in to, it could have been far more difficult to work around. This is a store that sells pricy outdoor equipment to people who are need quality gear. They call themselves “Gearheads.” Not a single person out of the three I had contact with seemed to have any idea that what they sell could be important. They sure didn’t acknowledge that they created any kind of inconvenience. I guess this was an easier way to learn an important lesson about company with equally low levels of competence and integrity.
