I ordered hiking shoes and they were too big, so I ordered another pair in a smaller size. When I shipped back the other shoes, I was given store credit only because they claim the shoes were used. I never wore the shoes and they declined a refund. I will never shop here again as I paid for the shipping return omw brand new pair of shoes that they say were used. It’s a scam. The whole company is a scam if this is how they do business. Will not shop here again.

I returned a coat and ordered another size same coat according to directions. I was given store credit for the first coat. Instead, I would like a refund on my credit card. The representative kept referring to my account and saying that it can’t be edited. I should be able to edit my account. My credit card number was saved without consent. This is a horrible way to do business.

The returns go through an factory inspection and its a joke. I was told the jacket I bought was washed because testing smelled fabric softener. The jacket was new, unworn with original tags and in original packaging. I was told I can only get store credit as refund and I only found out about it because I never received my refund back in my bank account.

Be very cautious ordering off of their website. They auto add a shipping liability fee that seems nominal but it is a cash cow for them. You do not need to pay extra to insure your items are not damaged in shipping and arrive in one piece. Companies do this without adding additional fees. This should be happening inclusive of the retail price. Backcountry is nickle and diming consumers!

Purchased a jacket, sent via fed ex whom delivered to some random address. Backcountry expects me to eat the cost of the jacket.

I spoke with Norma from Back Country regarding missing items from my order, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Norma was unable to resolve any of the issues, nor would she accept or trust the findings of the third-party shipping insurance company, which clearly stated that two of my items were never shipped from Back Country’s warehouse. When I asked why Back Country would partner with a third-party company they apparently do not trust, or whether the shipping insurance offered by Back Country was legitimate and intended to protect consumers, Norma could not provide a clear answer. Our conversation lasted over an hour, yet no resolution—or even a plan for one—was offered. In addition, there was a significant language barrier throughout our interaction. Norma’s strong accent made it difficult to fully understand her, and her inability or unwillingness to respond directly to my questions suggests that communication was a challenge on both sides. The implication that both I and the third-party insurance company were being untruthful was particularly unacceptable and unprofessional. Mistakes can happen in warehouse operations, but how they are handled defines a company’s integrity. Unfortunately, this experience has completely eroded my trust in Back Country. This was my first and will be my last time shopping with your company. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Back Country to others. I will be informing members of our adventure group to consider more reputable apparel and gear companies—ones that respect their customers’ time, honesty, and hard-earned money

They deliver $200 Patagonia jackets via DOORDASH and there is NO way to get a hold of the DoorDash driver to give instructions. 100000% unprofessional and unacceptable!!!!!! For them to not use a professional delivery service. Never again will I order from this awful company. When my package is stolen they better give me every cent back.

Won't honor their return policy. Claimed new equipment was used. I bought a pair shoes tried them on in the house and they didn't fit now they are claiming they are used. They wouldn't even provided pictures of the wear marks they claim are present. I checked store credit b/c I planned on buying a different pair. Will not be using this company again for any of my outdoor gear needs.

I ordered a Columbia Fleece from Backcountry, through Amazon. I received a plastic pipe. I was told by Amazon that Backcountry would replace the fleece. They will not, I have purchased many items directly from Backcountry in the past. Never Again.

Horrible customer service. I ordered an Arete Sling 8L Hydration Pack, which was supposed to come with a water bottle. The water bottle was missing when it was delivered. Customer service wanted me to return it, then they’d send me a new one with the bottle, but they said that since they didn’t have the color I had ordered (black), they’d have to send me a different color, and charge me $15-$20 more since that color was more expensive. I suggested they just send me the water bottle (saving themselves postage), and they said no. I suggested I send the bag back, they take the bottle from a different color bag and send me back the black bag with the bottle (since that’s the color bag I wanted), they said no, I’d have to pay more and get a different colored bag.

I was under the impression that backcountry is a professional company with better response to customers. But it turned out to be untrue. I placed an order online and these idiots havent shipped anything for a week and they are clueless when they will ship. An unprofessional way of dealing with the customers

I have had a terrible experience with Backcountry customer service and their shipping. The package that I ordered did not arrive as scheduled and a customer service representative speculated that it is probably lost. They claim they shipped it by FedEx but the tracking number that they gave me is supposedly not an accurate Fed Ex number. Every customer service rep. has told me something different and there is no one in charge to be found. I was told I could file a claim and wait for a resolution. Is this the way we do business in the U.S. now? I would not recommend them because I don't trust them and they don't seem to care about their customers satisfaction. Beware!

Ordered a backpack on July 8th. Called them to place the order. The agent took my information, credit card information and told me I was all set. Received an email same day saying that the order was placed and pending fulfillment. More than 30 days go by and still no backpack. Contacted the company. After explaining the situation (with order number) I was told to wait while they looked into it. Chat function logged me off. Next customer service person finally tells me that the payment was declined. All well and good (there was nothing wrong with my credit card) but after more than 30 days they still couldn't be bothered to reach out to me (confirmed with agent that they had my email address). Cancelled order out of frustration (and still no backpack).

I wouldn't recommend backcountry to my worst enemy. Nothing but problems with shipping, payment, and lost items from the start. Nobody seems to be on the same page at backcountry. Different answers to the same questions when all I wanted was what I paid for. Sensitive staff who seem offended at the slightest inconvenience to them. Get your gear someplace else.

While Sami was helpful in troubleshooting my issue, Backcountry ultimately failed to fulfill their promise of overnight shipping. It has been almost 48 hours since I placed an order with overnight shipping. I understand that since my order was placed on a Sunday night, there may be some delays. But 48 hours later, the shipping carrier has still not received the package from Backcountry. Backcountry furthermore stated multiple times that the shipping carrier had received the package. Confirming the tracking number with both Backcountry and the shipping carrier, nobody can tell me where my package is.

I paid for 2 day shipping, and 3 days after placing the order, the items showed status as "Pending fulfillment". On calling customer service, I was informed that the order was ready for shipping and in a couple of hours I should see an email with tracking number. One day later, I called again, and this time was informed that they were still packing the order. When I asked why the previous day the customer service person lied to me, this service person issued me a "first warning". When I asked what the warning for, as I was just stating facts, she issued me a "second warning". The conclusion was she could not provide me with a date, and that they were doing everything possible "in their hands", whatever that meant. Never ordering from them again!

They have shipping issues. They can’t seem to get your order to you in the promised shipping times. This has happened two times in a row. Been using Backcountry for close to 10 years have spent over 6g buying from them. I won’t use them again.
