“Hi Biostrap team! :)
As I’m a fan of different fitness- and health gadgets, first of all I'd like to say Thank You for new interesting and promising concept :) I’m using it for about 2 weeks (wristband and shoepod) alongside with my usual garmin 935, and here is my experience:
- generally I don’t see now a reason to wear it during the day (it makes sense for me only at night for sleep tracking). If it were automatically checking my HRV during the day, then it could make sense to wear all the day (current manual checking is quite annoying)
- HRV measurement (biometrics mode) is not accurate, however it can be linked to some movements or not correct posture during measurement. I think you need to integrate some advises and directions during this 2 minutes measurement, so people take it in a right way
- app dashboard is nice but don’t provide simple summary: HRV before and after sleep, recovery rate? did I have enough sleep? Today's comparison with week average? etc. This simple data could be very useful to make decisions on today’s workouts and overall day planning
- is it possible to measure also REM sleep? Light vs Deep sleep is very common to all trackers, while tracking REM is quite unique today.. and could be important data for athletes
- wristband is not very comfortable
Overall I like your approach to customer care and support, regular updates, communication etc. I hope you will move the same way, improve device and software, and we will happily use it everyday :)
Thanks
Igor”
“I have had my bio strap for a week and it has come off twice at night while trying to monitor sleep. After that happened, I taped it on with medical adhesive tape but the silicone in the strap keeps the medical tape from attaching tightly. Now I am going to try duct tape and then forget it. I don't think I should have to pay additionally for a new strap which according to reviews is not 100% effective either.”
“Hi Guys - Great product but your code needs work. Constant problem with syncing which is pretty frustrating. Also, you need to provide the ability to export data and to view results on computer.”
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the feedback here. We are always working on ways to improve the user experience including working on the sync times. It is important to note here that our device takes a significant amount of data and the longer a user goes without opening the app to let it sync the longer it will take to sync.
Regarding exporting data. We currently have the option to download a PDF of your sleep data from the sleep page. We are releasing the ability to do the same for on the spot Biometric recordings as well in an upcoming release.
Your feedback is appreciated and we are working on these items. Reach back out to our support team if you have any other questions.
“I like the information the Biostrap is giving me. It has been dead on in terms of when I need to take time off and recover. Areas for improvement though would be in the buckling of the wrist strap. I find that in taking coats on and off, the wrist strap will also come off. The other area of improvement I hope they make soon is faster syncing. There are still mornings where it takes a long time to get the wrist strap to sync with my iPhone.”
“When I bought this, I did not realize that my data is uploaded and downloaded and processed off-device. Still trying to get answers as to what to expect for average monthly data usage. Too many variables apparently. Additionally, reviewing the data on my phone is thus delayed. This is a much different device than what I'm used to. Not real time at all. I may only be able to review their charts on a once daily basis, the day after. Support is only available via the app/email. No phone. Response has been OK, but not entirely informative. Time will tell.”
“I like the device itself and the possibilities it has, but I concerned about not being notified about important updates so I have some idea why something may not be working correctly. I have RLS, so I am trying to keep track of my leg movements to work with my doctors. I am in frequent contact Caitlin, who helps me out often.”
“I like the biostrap very much but I cannot do what I want until I get the bootstrap (not in the original packaging) and I have not received a replacement at this time. I reported the problem Sep 17 and it is now Oct 1.”
Thank you so much for reaching out and letting us know. I just looked up the tracking on that order and followed up with USPS. We did ship this out on 9/17, but from what I found out the order go lost in transit.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience here and have put in a new order for you. I am going to follow up via email with you as well so we can confirm the new order arrives in good order.
“Have had the Biostrap for a few weeks now and primarily use it for sleep readings. Love the measures, but have had inconsistent synching with my android phone. Actually can't tell when it synchs with the app. Would recommend two changes: A button or prompt to indicate or initiate synching and 2. A better band to keep firmly on wrist. The bands supplied are nice but don't provide the user with a satisfactory level of confidence to wear outside of the house. Sticking with them for now. Customer Service is VERY GOOD and listens to suggestions with encouraging feedback.”
“Received a bad unit, contacted support, they wanted me to wait 4+ days till the battery died and see if it resets. I was returning the whole thing, then they offered exchange, so I took it. Exchange took a few days, but the replacement is working fine. Don't know if I have a new unit or recertified, but seems to be working ok.”
“I have now used the Biostrap with the Shoe pod for 46 days. It is paired with the App on the iPhone X. When working, the Biostrap provides useful information, Heart Rate, Steps, Respiratory Rate, Sleep History and other measurements. I find the negative issues most frustrating. First, communication between the App and device is sporadic at best. When it does connect, sync times are frustrating as they take several minutes and the phone and device must be in very close proximity. As mentioned, I have now been using the Biostrap for 46 days. Most recently, in the last week the Biostrap has failed to properly record any workout data whatsoever for five days, four being consecutively. Currently it has become not even a good paperweight.”
“The boot sensor broke on my second use and subsequently lost during a cycling activity. Like the data, but the design and weak construction were disappointing.”
“I bought this based off reviews & having experience with the fitbit you can swim with. To be honest.. I like the look & feel of the Biostrap I was just disappointed with the rate of syncing to the app.. because this doesn't have a front face on the wristband itself, you rely on looking at the app. Mine takes about an hour each time I sync my Biometrics & then it never gets my oxygen reading.. no matter how still I am or dark the room is.. I've even put a towel over during the reading & it doesn't work out! I sadly would like to return it because its not an efficient tool for my Fitness Coach Business! Maybe it's me being on an island with shotty internet connections all over the place, if it synced & gave me the readings I wanted I would totally recommend this strap!”
Thanks for providing a review of your experience Stephanie.
Regarding the sync times the connection could definitely affect the time it takes to sync the data up to our servers and display in the app. If a user has issues we normally suggest trying turning off WiFi to let it sync over cell data. However if both WiFi and Cell signal are affected by your location it can affect things from there.
Regarding your Oxygen readings, that is something support would definitely have wanted to take a look at to make sure the sensor was functioning properly to take your SpO2 levels.
Reach out to our support team via support@biostrap.com if you want to try troubleshooting or if you want to continue with the return process.
“The strap that came with it was very uncomfortable and cut off circulation. Is very very difficult to secure. I see that they have a 2. 0 version and I think that should have shipped with it”
“Nice looking quality made product but not what I was looking for. I had a lot of difficulty attaching the clasps on the wrist band and at a $30 dollar price for their updated version I didn't think it was worth it. The software wasn't what I was looking for as it seemed to come up short on meaningful information regarding sleep efficiency and on the other hand very detailed and far beyond what I need regarding tracking and developing fitness. I returned it and honestly is a $25 dollar restocking fee really necessary?”
