“By Miles = BY PASS
I have been driving for over 50 years and By Miles has to be the worst company I have ever dealt with for car insurance.
I got the insurance online having meticulously filled in all that was asked of me, including two previous accidents. Normally I always save my applications for anything I do online, on this occasion I did not.
Day two after receiving the Tracker I had a flat battery. I also noticed my car was going on its own nightly journeys when I was in bed. I telephoned By Miles about this and was told “it can take a few days to settle in “My garage checked the car over for seven days – no fault. Car was returned – two days later flat battery, so off to the garage again. Then another trip to the garage for same reason. Three times my car was in and out of the garage. My garage was brilliant and always supplied me with a courtesy car. Meanwhile By Miles telling me, nothing wrong with the Tracker. By Miles sent me another Tracker, no problems since. The stress and inconvenience was overwhelming. They also told me that I would receive a report on the Tracker I had returned – still waiting for that!
Then the crunch came after a minor accident, which was the fault of the third party.
Reported the accident to By Miles, who informed the underwriter, UK Insurance Ltd. Having given both companies the information they requested, I have been inundated with more telephone and email requests for the same information. One particular conversation from UK Insurance left me very upset. On checking my emails after returning from a journey I discovered that UK Insurance Ltd had voided my policy as I had only declared one accident. I immediately telephoned BY Miles, although the call handler was brilliant, bottom line was – I lied on my application. I distantly remember informing them of two accidents and not one. For the most obvious reasons it would NOT be in my interests to lie. However they say I only declared one accident and therefore my policy was voided, unfortunately for me I am unable to prove otherwise. UK Insurance Ltd is owned by The Direct Line Group who also own By Miles. Through some ‘glitch’, ‘gizmo’ or technical error only one accident appears on my application and because of this I now have to pay almost double car insurance as I have a black mark against my name. If either of these companies were the only ones left in the UK for car insurance then I would give up driving rather than use them.”
“Raise price every single year, lowers your miles if you drive less than quoted for next year but price goes up each year? Its ment to go down with more years no claims. Cant drive any other car like 99% insurance allows. Cant drive morethan 150 mile or your yearly cost goes up wich is just stupid, especially if you still have over a thousand miles left to use. Massive excess charges if you actually get in an accident. Doesnt make sense how this company operates compared to every other insurance you can get. They were much lower first year now they higher by £80+ on compare sites from ther renewal quote. Hopefully il still get money back from them so then they will be even higher priced compared to most quotes iv had”
“I spoke to an agent about cancelling my policy and they said I had to put it in writing so I sent an email with all my details and the date I wished to cancel my policy. However I have just been told that I need to follow the cancellation procedure. They are now wanting me to pay beyond my cancellation date, as my policy is not cancelled! They are being very patronising and unhelpful. I have tried to call the complaints number and it’s just ringing, I’ve been holding on for 15 minutes. If you are looking for a Car Insurance company, don’t choose By Miles.”

“Great company for car insurance, just a shame they don’t do van insurance as would of been nice to have all my vehicle insurances with one company.. Good incentives for miles back, and tracker app.”
“Miles need to stop taking money like they earn it.
They put people from another language. We have miscommunication so u have to pay for it. Poppy is more expensive but there services is better”
“Most useless insurance company please avoid this people by all means, they have more than trippled my insurance since taking over.initial the company that used to ran it were good now its just a bunch of thieves”
“My car was hit while parked. I have all details of the car and person who hit my car. BY MILES. Refused to deal with claim.unless I signed a credit agreement. They do not deal with claims. I emailed a director but still no joy. Use a real insurance company”
“What a shame . It all started so well for ByMiles ....you could even talk to someone on the phone . Been with them for 2 years and nothing to complain about . Now I have received an email to say they can no longer insure me . No reason . No explanation just something about 'rules' . I know they were taken over last year and looks like the greed has set in . Beware of them as they are no longer the company I started with”
“In all honesty, I've had a good experience. My renewal quote is only £207 as I only drive about 1k miles per year. I had to speak to customer service as my tracker kept disconnecting and they were helpful. I've not had to make a claim so not sure on that area of things but so far so good.”
“Lure you in with a, seemingly, cheaper policy price only to hit you later on before your insurance has expired with additional charges when you have exceeded the number of miles you estimated you'd drive. Just a way to extort more money from you - avoid”
“I am disappointed with this insurance company, I had no problem taking out the cover and was initially impressed with the glossy website and cheap cover.
Thirty days before the auto renewal date of the policy I requested a quote, unfortunately no response. According to the FAQs on the website, it says quotes will be sent 21 days before auto renewal date. Disappointingly I received nothing from ByMiles. I tried calling them but could never get through, I also emailed them several times but no response.
At this moment I thought I was fortunate not having to claim for an accident. It is almost impossible to speak to customer services.
As I was not able to cancel auto renewal, I was on the assumption my cover will automatically renew. How wrong was I! The day came and my policy was cancelled without prior notice, However this was not clear on the ByMiles app.
I eventually received a response after sending several complaints emails. I was told lies that an email was sent to inform that the policy will be cancelled. How ironic that I received all the junk marketing emails from this company but not the important cancellation email.
Please don’t gamble your money with this insurance company, who knows what the claim process is like when they ignore you and make up lies.”
“I joined by miles and have been sent the tracker. The tracker seemed faulty as I plugged it in the obd-2 socket it disabled my tyre inflation system, electronic brake system, engine system and car start system meaning the engine would not start to work, the car was dead! The first repair has cost me 1100. I contacted by miles and was asked for the miles tracker serial number. A software update would be given and I should try again. So I tried it again for a 2nd time and same faults again and the car needed a repair again this time it has cost me 350. I had my car repaired for a summary of 1450 and all I received is my insurance refund and an apology. No compensation or refund for the repair costs. Avoid!”
“Bought the insurance, fitted the tracker, but when I drove the car my foot dislodged the tracker. Tried to contact the company but their chat system through the ap was offline. Their customer service phone number was not given or I could not find it, so I cancelled by email. They advised it will take up to 21 days to get my refund, even though I'm in the 14 days grace period. Not a good experience. It's no good buying cheap if the customer service is not there”
