“Subject: Serious Concerns Regarding Tire Installation and Safety at Canadian Tire
For the past few years, I have been a regular customer of Canadian Tire on the North Shore in Kamloops, where I had my seasonal tire changes performed. Each time, the tires were placed in plastic for me to bring back the following season. However, approximately five days ago, I visited Mr. Lube in North Shore, Kamloops, for an oil change. During this service, the attendant brought to my attention that the winter tires currently on my vehicle were unsafe and should never have been installed.
This revelation was deeply concerning, as Canadian Tire had installed these tires just three weeks prior. I had been using the same tires, stored and wrapped in plastic as per their routine, for several seasons, and I relied on Canadian Tire's expertise for both installation and safety checks.
The attendant at Mr. Lube identified several critical issues with the tires: one tire was not the correct size for my vehicle, all four tires showed significant cracking, and one tire had multiple missing studs. Given the seriousness of the situation, I immediately contacted my son, who is a car salesman, to validate the information. On his recommendation, I asked the Mr. Lube attendant to take photographs of the tires, which he did using my phone. After reviewing the images, my son confirmed that the tires were indeed unsafe to drive on.
The Mr. Lube attendant further explained that had I brought the tires to them for installation, they would have refused to mount them due to their hazardous condition. I was shocked that Canadian Tire had installed these unsafe tires without informing me of the potential risks. I had been driving with them for a month, including two out-of-town trips, unknowingly endangering myself and my family.
After my oil change, I returned to the Canadian Tire location to address the issue with the store manager. Unfortunately, the manager’s response was dismissive and he did not acknowledge any fault. After I expressed my concerns, they reluctantly offered to replace two tires at a cost of $1,000. Feeling unsupported, I declined their offer and returned to Mr. Lube, where I was able to purchase four new, high-quality winter tires for $798, including tax. The staff at Mr. Lube treated me with respect and professionalism, ensuring that my safety was their priority.
Following this experience, I have decided not to return to Canadian Tire for any future services. I later spoke with a head manager at Canadian Tire, who expressed shock upon hearing what had happened. While I was offered $100 in Canadian Tire money, I feel that this gesture is insufficient considering the serious safety risk I was exposed to. I plan to use this credit at Mark's, but I remain deeply concerned by how the situation was handled.
What upsets me most is the lack of concern from the mechanical manager at Canadian Tire. While the head office manager assured me that an email would be sent to the mechanics, instructing them to ensure they are installing safe tires, I am left wondering whether this will truly result in meaningful change. I asked one of the employees if he would want his mother driving on the tires they had installed on my car. As a mother and grandmother, I cannot imagine the grief my family would have endured had I been in an accident due to the unsafe tires. The employee offered no response, simply looking away.
I hope that anyone considering having their tires changed at Canadian Tire will read this and think carefully about their safety before doing so.
Sincerely,
Dana Marcano”
“Online order was sent back as none in stock. They went from 2 items to zero in 30 min. Went to the store #304 at 2110 101st in Edmonton. Found one item under isle 169 as was noted on website. At that isle were 4 females talking about astrology and not one of them asked if I needed help. No one acknowledged me as a customer. I hate going in there, 10 employees crossed my path and not one of them said hello or stopped to see if I needed help. I drive to Leduc, they care about customer service.”
“Went to canadian tire 6014 currents Dr NW Edmonton AB T6W 0L7 for their rotation for my truck , I saw mechanic pulled in inside the bay as I watch him customer lounge ,check tire threads after 15-20mins pulled out my truck and charged me the whole amount $44.09 just checking my tires ,he didnt even rotate the tires !thats horrible and I’m so disappointed !”
“Bought NEW 20lbs Propane Tank . Was Dated 3 years old, only7 years left before it had to be replaced, by law. Top Price, more that Costco
Wrote my name on Tank. Then I noted Date. Would not refund my money or give me a 2024 Dated Tank because I wrote my name on tank. Fraud.”
“Went to buy a gas power lawn mower and the first location argued if it was a battery one or gas. Then they couldn't find it in store even after I bought it. Then they sent me to the forest store in Edmonton alberta where it was confirmed there was 2 instock. But when I got there the vanish into a seaman. I waited for 2 hours for the shipper to find them and him and the manager didn't even go out to look. When they were called to see where the lawnmower was conveniently the 2 were missing. This happens too often at all Edmonton locations these KIDS don't put in the effort to look.”
“Don’t go Canadian Tire, especially for car inspection. They rip off you after finding small issues. They charge more than $300 for simple parts replacement saying it takes 2 hours by professional mechanic, which if you buy parts from Amazon and DIY it only costs $30 and 10 minutes work. I repeat: don’t go to Canadian Tire for car inspection!!!”
“I shop at Canadian Tire quite often. And I like shopping there. But this time it backfired on me. I bought a couple of items, one of them a Spotshot Aerosol I usually buy this item in a regular spray bottle, but this time I thought I would buy an aerosol . Used it the next day and was happy with it, until it stopped. There was no way I could get it to spray again. So, no problem I will return it and get another and continue on with my cleaning. But...no refund. I had used more than half of the spray and Candian Tire does not give a refund. I feel that that was bad customer service.”
“Worst customer service staff at Meadowvale Town Centre. Forced me to return item purchased within one week with original receipt to the store where it was purchased. Never will go back to this store due to their poor customer service. Canadian tire corporate should do more mystery shop for their level of customer service.”
“Canadian Tire is one of my all time favorite stores and I probably shop here about twice a week if not more. I also love their triangle master card and all of the perks that it comes with.
Unfortunately on 07/16/2024 I purchased the for living osculating fan. During assembly the inside of my hand was cut and I required five stitches. Not fun.
I was cut in the metal piece that goes into another part of the fan. There was a jagged piece at the end of the pole.
I am hoping to let others know to please be careful!! It's been two weeks today and my hand is still sore and I am still unable to use it normally. Cut was very deep.
I tried to upload a picture of my hand but it didn't allow me .
Be careful people if you buy this fan !!”
“It’s really not the first time. I’ve been to Canadian tire Aurora Ontario a few times to buy things. One was a big purchase. We wanted to buy patio furniture for about two grand, three grand. But no one was around to help. I roamed around and found somebody and they couldn’t give me the dimensions or they only had one set, which is the one I wanted. But was in a box and he couldn’t give me any information so I walked away. Now I’m here another time, I was just looking for laundry baskets that collapsed which they’re sold out, but told, I would get them tomorrow. And then I continued on to purchase balloons that were not cheap plus other ones for a birthday party tonight. And I had to walk up with all my purchases that I did have to the service desk and asked if they would please page someone to that area for me and then I walked back over to the area and no one came. So I just left all my purchases that I wanted down on the counter and walked away. I love Canadian tire I love buying Canadian but lots of staff. We’re walking by me and not even asking if I need help. Perhaps some better training is needed for this store.”
“There online purchases ,confirmation amd pick up has been a nightmare hence I will not shop online with them. They have reorganized their store and it is disorganized”
“It appears there is no follow-up for these reviews. If Canadian Tire values customer service, they should address my concerns here.
I brought my car in for a minor electrical problem and was charged a two-hour diagnostic fee, despite the technicians being unable to identify the issue. I was advised to visit the dealer for diagnosis. I still don't understand why I was charged for diagnostics that provided no results. This needs clarification.
After picking up my car, several new warning lights appeared on the dashboard, indicating that the technicians caused additional issues while attempting to diagnose the original problem. The service manager and his team were unprofessional, rude, and uncooperative.
If you want to waste your money, risk further damage to your car, and be treated disrespectfully, this is the place to go.

“Worst store to deal with. When buying anything from Canadian Tire, the staff is taught to greet you. If for any case you have to return anything, FORGET IT.. YOU WILL BE TREATED AS "SHIT"”
“Sadly disappointed with my visit today.
Went to purchase 30 bags of dirt along with Paint and Stain for my deck.
I had a GF with me who has a physical handicap and speech problem and the Paint Associate was far from welcoming should I say. Did quite know how to help. So another Paint Associate came to help me with my paint/stain request but was not even remotely interested in assisting me. My original stain was from Home Depot who always match colours. Which I acknowledged but was told they could match.
Ended up like too much work so. Sadly left disappointed at the lack of any assistance and went to Home Depot.
Thank you Home Depot. Should have went there in the beginning.”
“The Franchise in Rouyin Noranda Is terrible. I blew a tire on Canada day in Northern Quebec, limped car to Noranda, found 5 tires my size at CT. I'm guessing garage manager refused to sell me the tire on sale, she refused to break a set of 4 that were on sale. She instead told me my only choice was a tire 3X the cost and 6 yrs old... I offered to buy 2 tires which still woulda been cheaper. Also too busy to take 10 minutes to mount on rim, Kal Tire took the time to get my tire on and back home 8 hours away. Now my GF woulda caved to her pressured sales tactics and bought 4 tires..
Worse service ever, what happened if it was warranty? Would she sold me a tire? Is it simple discrimination cause I'm English and out of province... Is it cause I'm a man stranded and her frail ego needs the power trip or was I just being gouged and screw the stranded customer...
So yes complaints filed to head office, lawyer is going to be involved. I've worked in a Garage at the desk, we go out of our way for people who are stranded..Nice Canada Day festivities...
This will be followed up , I'm disgusted with thst women and her attitude. Even after filing the 1st complaint the store owner still couldn't reach out. So another complaint filed and they offered to cover the Kal Tire bill.
I would like to Thank Kal Tire for getting me in and installing a tire they didn't sell...very classy and professional..”
“The online ordering site is FRUSTRATING. Compared with other stores (Grocery booking appointments, for example) the site is IMPOSSIBLE to negotiate.I tried TWICE to PAY for purchases. Yesterday over $200.00.I then remembered that this had happened to me in the past.
According to the payment page My credit card information was entered correctly, my address was correct. Hit PAY NOW and the site was never reached, with the attempt circling round and round for over a MINUTE trying to open. Canadian Tire lost a sale.I was frustrated because their prices are lower than other stores for the same items. I even checked my internet connection.”
“Today I took my car to the Canadian Tire near me for a wheel alignment. Given their first-come, first-served policy, I made sure to arrive at the store by 8 AM to be the first customer. I spoke with the parts and maintenance manager, who assured me that the service would take a couple of hours and that I would be called once it was completed.
However, by 1 PM, I still had not received a call. Concerned, I reached out to them, only to be informed by another staff member that my car was not yet finished and that there was still another car ahead of mine. This was confusing and frustrating, considering I was the first customer that morning.
After waiting another hour, I called again. This time, the manager answered and, upon my inquiry, mentioned that they were still working on my car. He seemed quite testy and unaware of which car was mine. When I described my car and the maintenance requested, he suddenly realized that my car had been ready for quite some time, claiming they had called me three times. I had not received any calls or messages.
When I arrived to pick up my car, I paid for the service and asked to speak with the technician who worked on my car to ask some questions. The manager and his assistant were extremely rude and refused, stating the technician had already left. Their dismissive attitude and lack of communication were unprofessional and unacceptable.
This experience not only wasted an entire workday but also left me very dissatisfied with their service. Despite being told the job would take two hours, it took far longer, with poor communication and rude customer service throughout. I will not be returning to this store for any future car maintenance needs.”
