About Chilton Furniture:

Chilton is a family-owned, Maine company dedicated to selling fine, wood furniture, all American-made. We are known for our Shaker-inspired designs, and also feature Arts & Crafts, modern and cottage style pieces in solid cherry, maple, ash, walnut, and quarter-sawn oak. We are also known for the quality craftsmanship of our custom work. Many of our pieces can be custom built to your specifications.

Much of our furniture is handcrafted in small Maine workshops, and we also work with boutique craftsmen in New Hampshire, Vermont and the Midwest, many of whom have been partners for decades. All of these cabinetmakers have a Shaker-like dedication to workmanship, function, and simplicity of line and form. All of Chilton’s pieces are built to our high standards, and a growing number are original, proprietary designs.

Used poor quality wood for small side table tops, then indicated I should appreciate the "character." Not what I expected given the price point and another very nice Chilton piece I own.

We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your tables. As per our correspondence with you, we do have a standard allowance for natural characteristics in wood which we celebrate. We also acknowledged that sometimes pieces fall outside of that standard variance and offered to exchange them for you. We requested photos of your tables so that we could ensure the exchanged tables would be an improvement from the pieces you are dissatisfied with. Ordered a mug. The listing on the website is not obvious. There are different types of mugs in the images, I wanted the one in the third image and mentioned that in the note, but got the first one which I didn't like at all. You guys should make it more clear as to what we're buying. Would love to exchange it if possible.

Poor product, good service. Table top Wood was disappointing and not what I saw in thé showroom. Some for thé boards used in thé table looked like théy were insect damaged

I entered the store on a busy Sunday to collect my item. Although every shopper was wearing a mask, I was very surprised that no employees were. There were also no precautions in place at the checkout, i.e. barriers.

I have no idea what the quality of the furniture is. I know I've sunk $20,000 into this project and so far have received nothing. I was notified that my order would be delayed until August 20th for shipping. It's October 20th and Chilton hasn't even sent me a follow-up message adjusting the shipping schedule. Not happy with this company right now.

The delivery process was on time, which I greatly appreciate. But it was rushed and not pleasant. In the end there is a side board with heart wood. I requested that not happen. Plus a support under the bed is not positioned as I requested. A sales person said I could have it more toward the head board to hide it. I drove the guys to a place where they could have lunch and I know the driver did not wear a mask into the general store. We wear masks in CT. It was so rushed I do not remember whether he had a mask on in my house. I took pics of the rail today and will forward them. I also e-mailed Eleanor about the issues. I know the truck was heading to NJ after me and they were sleeping down there that day. We did talk a bit. They were pleasant, just in a hurry. The 2nd guy was quiet.

The piece is beautiful however the purchasing/ordering process has some room for improvement. I patiently waited the 10-12 week for the items to be built. It took more than twice that amount of time for the items to be delivered. I received no updates from Chilton after the initial build time had passed.

Valued customer, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and we are very sorry for your frustrating experience. An important local builder of ours fell behind earlier this year after strong demand for our Shaker collection back in February and May. They have been hiring new woodworkers but they are a small shop and it has been taking time for them to work down their backlog. We expect that with their new team members, by year-end they will be back to their traditional 10-12 weeks. However, that is no excuse for not reaching out to you with an update. We tried to go down our list to contact every customer whose order was going to be delayed and I am sorry that we somehow did not contact you. We would like to offer something to make up for the additional time you waited without an update from us, and we would also like to thank you for your patience and your business with Chilton. No price protection, better to only buy at a sale.

Stephen, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for your frustration. At Chilton we try to offer an everyday low and fair price. We regularly compare ourselves with other solid wood furniture companies, and typically, Chilton's regular prices are below others' sale prices. We are not a promotional firm and we tend to hold only a few sales per year as a means to get more people to see the new products we have been hard at work developing. Those customers who wait for a sale will save a little bit but they will often be waiting longer for their furniture; whereas other customers prefer to just get their furniture as soon as possible.
