About Chilton Furniture:

Chilton is a family-owned, Maine company dedicated to selling fine, wood furniture, all American-made. We are known for our Shaker-inspired designs, and also feature Arts & Crafts, modern and cottage style pieces in solid cherry, maple, ash, walnut, and quarter-sawn oak. We are also known for the quality craftsmanship of our custom work. Many of our pieces can be custom built to your specifications.

Much of our furniture is handcrafted in small Maine workshops, and we also work with boutique craftsmen in New Hampshire, Vermont and the Midwest, many of whom have been partners for decades. All of these cabinetmakers have a Shaker-like dedication to workmanship, function, and simplicity of line and form. All of Chilton’s pieces are built to our high standards, and a growing number are original, proprietary designs.

“Outfitting our new home and needed a sturdy, attractive cherry bookcase. Visited our local Chilton Furniture store in Freeport and quickly settled on the 84" Shaker Bookcase - in stock and ready to go. Got home and realized it would be too tall - no problem switching to 72" version over the phone. Delivered carefully in perfect condition within a few days. Another great Chilton experience!”

“Chilton was great to work with- I ordered the Davis stools in cherry- beautiful, high quality and very comfortable. I love over 2 hours away, they transferred the stools from one location to Freeport so my daughter could pick them up. Great store, great quality and great staff!”

“We bought two large walnut dressers for our master bedroom that fully exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship of the pieces will ensure these last for generations to come. Our salesman Aaron from the Scarborough store went above expectations answering our many questions from comparing quality amongst other product lines, information on the builder, etc. For such a large purchase we weren't ready to make a decision right away. However, when we later had follow up questions Aaron provided us with specific dimensions, photos detailing the quality of the drawer sliders, dovetail joinery, aesthetics of sides and top of the dressers not shown on the website, and care instructions from the builder. If you like to do your research and want to gather information about a piece of furniture before purchasing make sure to seek out Aaron at the Scarborough store.”

“We love the fine workmanship we find at Chilton’s. We have several pieces we’ve bought over the years. This is heirloom quality furniture, handmade by craftspeople in Maine. It may seem expensive but we feel good that we’re supporting a true local business. Plus they have great customer service as well!”

“I always appreciate the quality and aesthetics of your offerings as well as the kind attention from your staff. No complaints whatsoever other than price--but in this post-industrial age if one is being honest with oneself one should not be shocked about the price of artisanal crafts.”

“We purchased several items from Chilton after visiting the Freeport showroom and discussing options with the sale associate there - Hancock stools, Mysa bed frame, shaker nightstands and mirror all in maple. Every piece is beautifully made and was delivered and set up with care. We will definitely be purchasing additional items to complete the interior design of our new home. We could not be happier with Chilton!”

“We selected our bed during a visit to the showroom in Scarborough and the staff there could not have been more helpful in showing us the available beds and helping us to explore the options available if we ordered a bed to be made to our specifications. The bed we ordered was completed well ahead of schedule and was expertly delivered and set up by a capable and friendly delivery team. The construction and finish is flawless. Nothing in our entire experience with Chilton Furniture could have been improved upon.”

“The coffee table fits nicely with the couch and TV stand, and blends with the Chilton Cherry dining table. The delivery men, Bobby and Adam, efficiently set up the coffee table, and adjusted it to fit with the surrounding furniture. It has been a pleasure to work with Chilton.”

“The Shaker Heirloom Table is a solidly built and very nice quality piece of furniture. I purchased the 36 x 60 version of the table and it is generously sized to seat 4. If we had to we could could accomodate a tight 6 on occasions but be aware that the more inset of the legs will not allow us to house 6 chairs permanently slide under the table, despite the the table top being technically large enough. As a note, the standard shaker table with it's legs positioned closer to the table would likely be better if you wanted to permanent 6 chair dining table on the 36" x 60" version. Thats said the heirloom is more solidly built due to it's thicker tabletop (1.25" vs .75") and legs (2" vs 1.5") and more durable finish (conversion varnish vs. lacquer) means the table should last a lifetime and probably then some.”

“We absolutely love our king-size Dune bed in Walnut! The wood is beautifully finished and the quality of the workmanship is superb. It has all of the hallmarks of an heirloom piece - 100% wood, rock solid/sturdy, gorgeous finish, every piece fits together perfectly. You can tell a real craftsperson built it because you can see it in the details. It was well worth the wait and we are already planning on buying more pieces from Chilton. Long-distance delivery was top-notch too - good communication/updates, well-packaged, carefully delivered and installed.”
