Although there was an issue on first contact regarding lack of email arriving giving details as requested, the following calls were more successful. Following my call with Jack Smith on Tuesday 7th Sept when we had recieved the email with information as requested my wife and I decided to go ahead with the proposal, on this occasion Jack succeeded in achieving our requirements as discussed.

So, I’m a new business owner that have just moved into a business property that Clear business supplies. My first ever interaction was when they contacted me to notify me of their relationship, mind you I haven’t started trading as I am still renovating. I mentioned that I will like to shop around before I can settle with them and I was advised that their due process involved, change of ownership of account which a new supplier takes on if I eventually move on to. I agreed and gave my details, the people I spoke to took my details (mind you, this happened every time I called or they called, nothing short of 3 times. When I finally questioned this, and if they don’t have my details, the lady said, ‘security checks’… I didn’t get it because I’m spelling and giving full details, but hey….). I have in one of the conversations asked what their rates where and all, the person answered they didn’t know and they would pass me onto someone who did but no one was available that day. Today, cos I really wanted to get to the root of all these calls and understand why they so badly wanted to talk with me, I rang and after giving my details, I was passed on to a ‘gentleman’ that took my details again and proceeded to ask for my Acc details to set up an Acc with them. I was quiet for a few secs and I asked, Acc details to set what up?. He responded my Acc with them. And I said, ‘if you’re setting up Acc that means you didn’t listen when I said I’ll like to shop around’… He said yeah but that’s part of setting up with them and that way they will be able to get an invoice for me. I was confused for a bit then I explained I wasn’t comfortable because 1. I don’t know how much they are setting me up for 2. I won’t say I use their services when I’m still renovating (I legit listed this 2 points). He responded in the negative, and explained that why a direct debit will be ‘better for me’ is because then I can be offered the cheapest rate they offer. Then, I asked again, can I not get an invoice because I do understand that I have an obligation to pay since I’ve assumed responsibility to bills in the property, but I will like to see an invoice then call back to discuss payment options then if I can go onto the direct debit. He said I didn’t have anything to worry about that the invoice comes out 2weeks before the direct debit, I responded I wasn’t comfortable because I wouldn’t want to cancel a payment and incur any actions rising from that. He tried to persuade me a bit further, I remained adamant and he concluded insinuating we couldn’t move forward and he will have to pass me on to another dept, I agreed, waited, he returned on the phone and said they weren’t available, and we hung up. I had a bad feeling to everything, the calls, the constant ringing and not even knowing what I was doing with them, and this really terrible thought that I ‘need’ to set up a direct debit before I can get an invoice. I rang my property agent to let them in on what’s going on. She confirmed that it will be a bad idea to set a direct debit up to get an invoice, she advised that I ring back and if they keep on insisting that I should ask to cancel whatever contract and whatever monies they come up with, that my landlady and myself will sit and talk. I called Clear business back in less than hour of our previous call, the next person was still asking for my details, name, address, name of new company ( and please I do know when you’re confirming what’s in front of you and when you’re making me spell things over and over to ‘record’ info). I explained my plight and that I’ll like to cancel, she passed me on to her colleague and he was obviously not trying to listen cos he kept trying to butt into every sentence. After I was done rambling, he told me I was at a wrong dept (😆) and transferred me before I could say Jack. Luckily, he transferred me to Sarah Holik, I was desperate and I think my first few lines exuded that and she was gracious!. I said things like confused and beginning to feel frustrated. She listened front the beginning to the end. She offered me information about rates that got me listening because their rates, from what she said sounded fair, but I was worked up and I had called to cancel. I didn’t say much nor responded negatively to her response, she assured me to pass me on to someone that will help me. Few seconds later, I was on with Dominic Ishola, she’s a star that Clear business should appreciate. She recapped in summary what Sarah had said to her, obviously, she heard me. She went on to tel me rates, and what monies I could incur for not just water ( which is the bone of contention), but also electric, phone and broadband. She understood that I want to shop around, she didn’t force me on to take their offer even knowing that they could possibly have one of the best ones out there, she gave me a detailed explanation to how their payments worked and I went from being potential cancelling client to a potential future client. I haven’t signed on but I am no longer where I used to be in regards to feeling of trust with dealing with them, and I have Sarah and Dominic to thank for this. P.s it turns out that I do not need to set up a direct debit before I can get an invoice, I will potentially have a slightly higher bill for a D.D fee or something of the sort but it’s not as detrimental as I thought it could be cos I won’t sign up for a D.D.
