“We used to be regular customers of Cook meals but the price has escalated and the quality has diminished. The meat in many dishes has now become almost extinct and with prices around the £11 mark it has become very expensive
After many years we will be moving on
We do not recommend”
“Bought Meat balls in rustic sauce. Don't know what you mean by rustic, it was just a thick tomato sauce hiding the fact that there're only 4 meat balls in the container for £6.25. Daylight robbery. I have been a customer of ours through our local Cp-Op but will not be. buying again. Your price increases are eye . watering and the quality is fast disappearing”
“I bought Beef Madras and although I know it's never going to taste the same as a true Indian madras, this was revolting!!
No spice or curry flavour whatsoever, all in could taste was tomatoes!! Do not buy this dish...yuk!!!”
“I decided not to buy from CFook over 2 years ago after deciding their food had really declined in tase, quality and amount of 'fill in' over meat quantity. My husband came home with a large fish pie 2 days ago and it was absolutely disgusting. It tasted processed, w thought the was was made from dry potato and there was very little fish but a lot of sauce. It cost over £40 so my 20 year old daughter decided to try to salvage it with additives and real mash. however it still needed up in the bin. Even our greedy dog would not eat it. SO NOT BUYING FROM COOK AGAIN, which is a shame because when they started out they were brilliant.”
“I just had the worst spaghetti bolognaise ever!
£6.50 for a meal for one which I purchased in the Morpeth store.
In hindsight, I don’t think I would be prepared to pay £2.50 - £2 for this meal.
It was so disappointing.
I carefully cooked it exactly as instructed on the sleeve, but there was no sauce on it at all. The meat was nothing special, and the amount of spaghetti was well, sadly lacking …
I couldn’t possibly recommend it, and cannot see any reason why I would ever want to give Cook another try…”
“My first experience, and last! Very disappointed with the Lamb Moussaka (£5.95), not nice because it was horribly salty, so couldn't eat it. It ended up in the bin, too salty for the dog! I have had far better Moussakas from the supermarkets for half the price!”
“I recently bought a lasagne and it was very good so thought I would try a fish pie for two. It was dreadful. The mashed potato had been over whipped and tasted like gluey wallpaper paste. There were several prawns but not a lot of other fish. The whole thing had a very strange taste and a fair bit went into the bin. At over £11 I was expecting better quality.”
“I have just had a steak and red wine pie (batch number 100011). It was awful. The steak was unbelievably chewy, just going round and round in the mouth like chewing gum. I’ll be careful not to buy any more of your products.”
“Sweet and sour chicken….only 3 small pieces of chicken!…for two .. too much sugar… sickly with too much pepper and pineapple… binned it absolutely inedible!
Shame as love the Cook shop but this dish needs reviewing”
“Bought Salmon and Asparagus Gratin, cooked by Jacob Barber . Very salty, not a lot of salmon and at best one sprig of asparagus cut into tiny pieces. White wine and lemon sauce was like runny salt water and potatoes on the top were tasteless. Where the cheese crumb was I don’t know. It’s a NO from me .”
“For the second time I bought a chicken ham and leek pie. I thought on the first occasion that there was plenty of chicken but the sauce and pastry were tasteless so I decided to give it another try with a different set of guests but unfortunately the same result. At almost £30 for a pie I will not be purchasing again! Very disappointed”
“Purchased a pie today chicken and ham for two when I lifted the crust there was hardly any chicken or ham just gravy we have noticed lately that we have had a few tasteless meals as well and have definitely got smaller been buying Cooks meals for over a year when I had a have a hip replacement and they were delicious definitely gone downhill .”
“We used to buy meals from Cook a couple of years ago which were good then the quality went downhill so we stopped. Thought we would give it another go, but it hasn’t improved; the Chicken & tarragon had tough horrible chicken in it. The sauce was very good, but it looks like Cook just steam a load of plain chicken pieces and then just add it to their different sauces rather than slow cook the chicken in the sauce. The chicken was clearly not cooked in the sauce as no sauce had absorbed into it and it was inedible. It’s not cheap either so we can’t see why the meat quality has become so poor. Would add that the member of staff at the York Cook branch was very helpful and friendly. Shame the food does not match the staff quality.”
