50 euro is Way Too Expensive for no apparent reason to post the dog on sale, when DoneDeal or Adverts were allowed to advertise dogs it would cost 3.99 and dogs also had microchips. I only had 2 lovely pups and wanted to sell them cheap. Not every one is a puppy farmer you know. Disgraceful, you must think people sleep on money when you cash 50 euro per ad. You should be ashamed of yourself. 9.99 even would be too little to fill your pockets?

Hi Nina I’m sorry you are not 100% happy with your experience on dogs.ie. We are upfront about the costs to advertise, it’s mentioned on the homepage and ad creation page. So it should not have been a surprise. Our prices have been the same for 2 years now, despite increased costs. We feel we provide a excellent support system to help you find a new home for your dogs. I can’t speak for the other websites, but as the owner of the site, I know we can’t provide the level of service we want at those price points. For simplicity we change the same to advertise 1,2 or 10 dogs. We hope you found great homes for your Jack Russells.

I liked the way that I was asked a lot of questions about what I was selling and I needed to prove that I had the correct documentation supporting what I was selling. This process helps to combat the selling of pups from puppy farms. I also liked that it was easy to communicate and received quick responses .

Hi Lucy, Thanks for your review. Legally dogs in Ireland can’t be advertised for sale until they are both microchipped and registered. So announcing litters is not allowed for example. Microchipping can generally happen at 6 weeks at the youngest. We had to add in the 7 week rule as people were sadly microchipping and registering dogs early and then selling them before the 8 weeks. This is dangerous to the puppies health and well being. While selling early isn’t something you would do, we had to add a rule because of some people’s rush to sell a dog. We hope that from 7 weeks is a happy medium of enough time to find a great home for puppies.

Far too expensive to post an ad. Lots of hoops to jump through before you're allowed to post the ad. I could go on more, but to make my review short - I just simply have not had a good experience using this site.

Hi Anon Thanks for your review. I’m sorry you didn’t have a better experience. Prices for ads are upfront before you post, so there shouldn’t be any surprises. As we don’t know what other issue you are relating to, here are some general points: we verify accounts by email and sms to cut down on scammers using our site. The rules on having microchip numbers are legal requirements in Ireland. The other ad requirements are mainly there to help you create a great advert to sell your dogs.

It was far too complex to advertise on dogs.ie. It was only two weeks after I tried to advertise that someone helped me to get my ad on and at this stage the puppies were older than when I wanted to advertise them. It is also far too expensive. I was unaware that a boost also cost so much. I sold no dogs on it. Very disappointing.

Hi Lorraine Thank you for your review. There were 2 reasons we couldn't publish your ad straight away, neither of them were on our side. And at the time we explained both, but here they are to be clear: 1) as you had 8 dogs to sell you needed to register with the Department of Agriculture, this note is also mentioned on the terms and conditions of the website 2) by law all dogs need to be microchipped and registered before they can be advertised. This is also stated in our terms and conditions. Currently we have over 50 ads for Golden Retrievers, so competition between breeders is high. Despite that your ad has been viewed over 600 times since it was posted. Ad prices are clear before you pay for the ad, so there shouldn't really be any surprises about the cost. We hope you start to get interest for your dogs soon.

Hi Erin Thanks for your review and I’m sorry you are not happier. Looking at your latest ad, I feel like better pictures will help you some more. You can upload up to 10. Photos of the dogs in a well lit room , playing with a toy may work better. Sales of puppies do slow down after Christmas. Hopefully you will get some interest in the coming days.

Hi Ian Thanks for your review and I’m sorry you have not had better successs at selling your litter. Looking at your ad, it has been seen over 300 times so far. We do have have quite a few other frenchy ads at the moment (38) so there is a fair bit of competition between sellers. You could try to lower the prices (you’d are a bit on the high end) to see if that helps.

Despite reducing the price I have not had any enquiries about the pups. Very disappointing as it cost so much to advertise them on this site

Not one call or text at all, €50 would have been better spent on puppy food.

Hi Rachel, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, and I'm sorry you are not happier with things. Looking at your ad, I'd definitely recommend taking some better / clearer pictures of your puppy. The images uploaded look a little grainy. Also I believe that the price you've set for the dog is also a major deterrent to some people contacting, even for a pedigree dog. Do let me know if we can help you get more interest.

Hi Marian, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. This is your 5th ad with us in about 2 years, so we are really surprised that you are unhappy and you continue to advertise. Prices for ads are upfront before you place them, so there shouldn't be any surprises. As you've been such a local customer I've arranged a refund. We even list 15 alternative websites here https://help.dogs.ie/knowledge-base/selling-your-dog/#alternative-online-platforms-to-dogs-ie

find the site helpful when I'm rehoming dogs. I do worry about the huge amount of cross bred dogs being advertised for sale. alot of breeders now just cross breeding to make a quick profit

I find the site excellent to sell my puppies and I get a very quick response if I have any enquiries. My problem is the price of the ads. I am a registered dog breeder and if I have a litter of just 1 puppy. It is expensive to put up an ad. I understand that we got great money for puppies during covid but the price of puppies have seen a sharp decline and the price of the ad is very expensive for a single puppy. Could ye decrease ye're price?? Kind regards Eily O'Callaghan

Hi Eily, Thanks for your review and feedback. The one price, either per littler or per dog is to make things as simple as possible for the breeders / sellers of dogs on the website. We do accept that it's more expensive when it's a single dog in a litter. Your previous ad had 6 dogs, so in that case it's better value at approximately €7/ dog. We previously (more than 5 years ago) priced ads based on number of dogs in a litter, but we found sellers only putting in one or two dogs from a littler. We want to encourage that breeders put in all dogs from the in the litter in ads.

Not a single call or message about the dogs!! Only another advertising company offering free advertising with them!! Bring back done deal I say!!

Hi Eamon I’m sorry you are not happy with your ad. Looking at it, it could be that the price is a bit high for a Retriever X Border Collie mix at €300 even though it’s been seen almost 800 times. Looking at similar ads yours would be one of the more expensive. If you reach out to support@dogs.ie we can help to optimise your ad for you.
