I cant comment about present policy at Dog Trust, but on 9th Oct 2015, we had a wonderful boy Cojo, my fantastic survivor, a Staffs Bull with epilepsy from them, we lost him last week at age 15, it was a privilege to have him with us for so many wonderful years, i thank Dogs Trust, Shrewsbury, for their support on a shared adoption scheme and initial support. They did not let us or Cojo down, its sad to read the painful experiences of people in their reviews, i only hope Dogs Trust can make this a little better for folks coming to them, anyway, the dog at the centre of it is what should matter most on both sides. Thankyou Dogs Trust for you constant support through your Shared Adoption Scheme , you never let us or Cojo down

We adopted our beautiful Pup from Dogs Trust - Canterbury. They have been absolutely amazing through the whole process from first applying to after we have brought him home. They took their time to go through everything with us pre adoption, during the adoption and after. We have had him 2 days and they have already checked in via phone calls and also via their Instagram page. The amount of support we have had is amazing 💛

Amazing team, we would have lots of homeless dogs if it wasn’t for these guys. The negative reviews seem to be from people not suitable to re-home, people looking for a certain breed only… dogs trust are doing great filtering these people out. Dogs need loved homes regardless of the breed

This is our second dog from dogstrust. All the staff that work for dogstrust are brilliant and so caring for the animals in their care The help if you need it is always there and is only a phone call away. The only thing we can say about dogstrust is BRILLIAN BRILLIANT BRILLIANT. Please support them as the do a massive job looking after the animals in their care. Mick and Pippa Cousens

They have been great for me. Seems like io is just a site to leave nasty reviews for companies :(

Had been looking for a dog for a while and not found a suitable match for us the Staff at the Dogs Trust in Harefield have been so wonderful and helpful, thank you all so much. Now with their help we have found the dog for us and will be bringing him home next week. They have been caring towards the dogs and owners. Don’t rush into choosing a dog as the right one will come along so it’s worth waiting. It is very upsetting seeing people running down such a wonderful organisation.

Dogs trust are MOST DEFINITELY NOT INTERESTED in rehoming dogs with people that have the knowledge and experience of the breed they are applying for plus the right environment for the dog. I have applied 4 times for the breed of dog that I HAVE OVER 30 YEARS of experience in keeping and training even when the onsite description reads MUST HAVE BREED EXPERIENCE. I have on each occasion ONLY RECEIVED an automated email stating that I am not a suitable or a good match . Nobody from Dogs Trust has ever contacted me directly. I would NOT be offering to rehome a dog if I didn't have the time, knowledge, experience or facilities to after it properly. I applied to the Dogs Trust to help a dog that needs a home. DOGS SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT TRUST THE DOGS TRUST to act in their best interests. One star only because there isn't the choice to leave 0.

Purchased our delightful Hattie from Dogs Trust Kenilworth in November ‘22. At first Dogs Trust was so very helpful and professional, I couldn’t fault them for their backup programme. However in mid March our pup began limping and was in pain. We took her to our local vet who diagnosed a twisted knee and prescribed pain killers. The condition didn’t clear up and a second diagnosis revealed a degenerative bone condition requiring immediate surgery to remove the top of the femur so that a pseudo joint would form. They suggested a hip replacement costing £6000 pounds which we simply could not afford. The vet then advised the cheaper alternative, the pseudo joint route which would have a satisfactory result but not so quickly. £2500, plus almost £1000 pounds initial treatment and x rays. We agreed. It was suggested by the vet that as we had only recently purchased the puppy Dogs Trust might be able to help. We contacted the Dogs Trust and when my wife informed them of the situation they just dropped us like a hot brick. And as the condition was genetic we suggested that they might contact the people who adopted our puppies brothers and sisters and advise them of the condition. You could almost see the icicles forming on the end of the telephone. The person we spoke to at Kenilworth just did not want to know and pretty much ignored the whole situation. We had hoped that considering the fact that we had bought the puppy, who will stay with us whatever happens, only a few months previously and, although we have not yet got the evidence, she must have had the condition when we bought her, we might get some further help from the Trust. Of that we have no chance. Further we would have thought that the other families should be informed of the possibilities that their puppies might be affected would have been a priority, very little chance. Dogs Trust have seriously let us down, we have paid the vets fees and there are more to come with therapy and further follow up examinations. So, if you are thinking of going to Dogs Trust get your dog thoroughly examined and blood tested. Despite the problems we have encountered the dogs and puppies at the Trust still need a loving home, but just be aware. I’m not sure if the Sale of Goods act applies, I really don’t want to go down that path. Our Hattie is home and this is where she stays.

Have now applied to adopt on 4 occasions and each time have received an automated reply to advise that we have been unsuccessful. Very disappointed and disillusioned with their procedures.

Upset and very disappointed. We are so sad and disappointed with Dogs Trust. I sent in an application for a small sweet border collie, and felt we ticked all the boxes. We sadly said goodbye to our courageous border collie just over a year ago, so felt now was the time for another companion. We are 2 adults who live in a rural setting with a quiet home, and have experience with collies. The sweet collie has been on their site for some time, and although she is being fostered at the moment, that is not the same as having a forever home is it. I received a generic email from them just stating we were not suitable. I wish I could contact them to say "please reconsider our application, as we just don't understand what we did or didn't put on our application, for them to just say no thank you. I have supported Dogs Trust for 10+ years with membership and Christmas donations etc... I am not bitter as I believe in what Dogs Trust do, but we just cannot understand how any of their dogs get rehomed, because its all very black and white to them with their questionnaire, and therefore we all miss out. I appreciate that they are very busy, but there are 19 dogs at Ilfracombe, and we just wanted one specific little border collie. I would love to hear from Dogs Trust to just see if we could come to some alternative response.

They give dangerous large dogs to incompetent idiots! I live in an area that has large amount of good dog owners. The Dogs Trust have given a large mastiff dog to an ex-army dog trainer who has made the dog incredibly dangerous. Well done on your vetting. He uses the freebie collar on a dog that is 50kg plus, the dog pulls so hard that it chokes itself he uses a retractable lead and he has now idea on how to train a dog. I have seen Chav's and Roadman's with better trained dogs. Just because someone says something doesn't mean that they can actually do it. The dog and owner/handler makes locals run out of the local dog park. I tried to offer some advice as I have had experience with larger dogs but the gentleman in question told me that it went against Dogs Trust training. When the dog acts dangerous and aggressively he doesn't acknowledge that the dog or himself are in the wrong BUT gives the dog treats and fuss which tells the dog that what it is doing is right. This is the reason that people will leave an area in a public park designated for dogs under control when he arrives with his dangerous dog with the Dogs Trust collar. Great advert for the Dogs Trust!!! Once again no thought for the general public. If I had to give up my dog I wouldn't give these idiots my dog as they would give them to anyone who hasn't got any idea of how to handle a dog. If you have to give up your dog don't give them to these idiots. Put it down it will be safer for your dog as some nut job will probably end up with your beloved dog. I am not saying this lightly. I once believed in the dogs trust but now I believe that it is a charity that is a pyramid scam paying the people at the top large amounts of money and giving dogs to people who bring the worst out in dogs. If my dog gets attacked by this idiots dog I will hold the dogs trust liable for it's ability to give dogs to nutters.

Regrettably the system requires at least one star. I fostered a dog through the Dogs Trust. The Dogs Trust employee was late for every single monthly home visit due to various dramas and the visits were interrupted by calls. I accepted they must be really busy, so imagine my surprise when I learnt after 3 months that two Dogs Trust employees were responsible for just 10 dogs between them. I contacted them once in three months, no drama from one of the ten dogs! I learnt that most of the foster carers had never had a dog so knew nothing at all. Despite my vast experience with dogs I was parented constantly about what I should be doing (the advice made the issues worse and the employee conceded I probably knew better because I lived with the dog!). At a monthly home visit I was told what a great job I was doing. I had been honest about an incident that occurred several weeks previously, a photo taken same day that I hadn't been aware of in a private group on Facebook, I heard about it an hour later and the post was deleted. I reassured the employee that it was in the past and demonstrated my understanding of how important confidentiality is. An hour after the home visit I received a call from the same employee asking me for details of the person who had posted the photo, I was working in heavy rain and explained I'd find out details later, it wasn't a good time. An hour later I'm told the dog was being taken away. That poor little dog, already pushed from pillar to post and spent 4 months in kennels before he came to me, had just adapted to his new life and they took him away because I couldn't jump when they wanted me too. I was informed by another employee who collected the dog that they had done a risk assessment and made the decision. WHAT RISK? And how can a risk assessment be complete without input from the foster carer? It was clear that their insecure egos were more important than the wellbeing of a dog, that wielding that tiny bit of power was more important to them. An absolute disgrace, effectively they're being paid to damage dogs. I haven't got a single good word to say about them.

I adopted a dog from Dogs Trust in October 2023, he had to be returned after 40 days for biting me 3 times, I asked for him to be returned after the second biting but was talked into trying again, then he bit me again. He went back and I have recently found him back on the rehoming site with the same description that led me to rehome him. I got in touch with them immediately with my worries for anyone who rehomed him but they have ignored me.

BE WARNED The 2 lovely placid old lady dogs I adopted have to go back. DT had failed to notice iin the 3-4 months they had the dogs in their care that one had an extremely agressive trait towards other dogs on leads. This has resulted in me being scarred for life. I only had the well behaved old ladies 2 nights - and on the next day one simply flew at a passing dog on a lead. I was pulled over and ambulanced to hospital with head and facial injuries. I live alone. Did DT come to my rescue? Not a bit of it. Their Post Adoption Help line had only a recorded message. They are going to take the poor dogs back after initisally telling me they wouldn't. Very upsetting experience and the dogs and I have been seriously let down.

We adopted a dog from dogs trust in Cardiff. We understood that there were some issues with him, we were patient, learned things about him as we went along. We had an incident with one of their vets where he bit her, she then waited three months to report this to police, in that time we worked hard with him to learn more about his triggers, I contacted dogs trust in regards to police where I was told more information about his background. Information they did not provide when we enquired about him. We then a few months later had another incident with him and our cat, we again contacted dogs trust who again provided more information that we were not given yet again. Unfortunately we had another incident where he went for my son and when we informed dogs trust we were again told more information. This poor dog had been in a crate that was too small, not outside much, been around domestic violence and with drug dealers. NONE of which was shared with us. We knew we had some work as he was nervous if men but we tried. It was heartbreaking taking him back but we had no choice. After the last incident and the lady said stuff i told her we were never told this and she tried to back track. They are putting peoples lives at risk and putting dogs through more trauma
