Equip provided exactly what we needed to help our daughter with anorexia: - An amazing therapist who has a masterful ability to hold us accountable while still being compassionate - A wonderful dietician who helps build our confidence in making adjustments using a foundation of caring and trust she has built with us - A caring family mentor, who has been through this before, and expertly points out our blind spots and ensures our focus where it matters - An expert physician, with tremendous knowledge and ability to figure out what's imporant - A psychiatrist with an unbelievable ability to really understand our daughter and her brain just by talking with her, and make what turned out to be all the right decisions for her meds. - A process with "more weight" is "more healing" for the brain at its foundation, which turned out to be the answer to our daughter's recovery.

Strengths The Dietician and the Family Mentor were steadfast allies in our battle with the ED. They exercised consistent messaging and a light touch handling parental misalignment. The therapists were all helpful. The program was effective, insofar as we are much better off than before we started. My daughter is still struggling, but the situation is 10x better than it was 18 months ago. I am grateful that my daughter's medical provider prescribed EQUIP for us and that my insurance provider authorized payment for the service. Weaknesses We experienced high turnover in the team, regarding the peer mentor and therapist. My daughter had 3 peer mentors and 3 therapists, and 2 medical staff during her first 12 months at Equip. She connected well with the first peer mentor, but she barely met with the second and she never even met with the third. Scheduling was difficult because of the time difference between us and all the providers. My daughter was not able to find any group meetings that occurred outside school hours, so she never joined a support group. The dietician and therapy appointments usually took place in the car right after school ended or at 6 am because of the schedule. This added a layer of challenge onto an already-challenging process. The first medical team member was not knowledgable about lab results (blood nutrient levels) and misinterpreted test results over a protracted period of time. The improper interpretation caused an incredible amount of stress for parents and patient. Specifically, she told us that our daugther was too ill to travel when in fact her nutrient levels were all in the normal range. She had relied upon the Kaiser lab's textual designation (which were based on adult physiology); she did not have independent knowledge of the appropriate concentration values for pediatric physiology. I learned this when I reached out to my daughter's pediatrician for help interpreting the lab results. When the medical provider was reassigned off our team, she informed us it was because of a regional reorganization of job duties. She never apologized for the errors. The net result was a decrease in our confidence about the medical side of EQUIP. The weight values displayed in the web portal are improperly and inadequately plotted. The x-axis values are shown evenly spaced even when the measurements are not collected at equal time increments. The number of measurements shown is limited, making it difficult to track trends over time. I have other small quibbles, but these are the major impressions.

Barely getting started, had one meeting with each member of our team and then our account gets shut down because of authorization paperwork. I filled it out twice and texted with Ashley who never reached out that it was still missing. Now my daughter’s treatment is on hold and our schedules are all messed up. I’m not happy.

Equip helped us get into a routine where I learned techniques on how to get my daughter to eat.

The wrap-around care at Equip has been extremely beneficial for our family. We've gotten excellent care from our treatment team and the additional groups/workshops have been outstanding. The virtual platform, and being in-network with insurance, have made treatment accessible. I'm very grateful for Equip and highly recommend it for families doing FBT for ED treatment.

Equip was able to work around our busy schedule and provide service tailored to our family. The virtual option was exactly what we needed. After being in the hospital for 30 days, we were exhausted and needed a break from hospitals. We appreciated being able to reach out to get help with what we needed when we needed it. I felt that the staff truly cared for my daughter and was happy to see her fully recover.

I don't know where we would be today without the expertise, guidance and support from Equip team. Our medical provider, peer mentor, family mentor, therapist, dietitian all worked alongside our family and daughter to work towards recovery. We are incredibly grateful to Equip and highly recommend this virtual program to any family dealing with an eating disorder.

I made an appointment and got a text confirming that someone would call me at a certain time. However, I never received a call or an email to explain what happened.

I had been actively trying to find help for my son with ARFID when the EAP (Employee Assistance Program) through my work suggested Equip. I was a little skepitcal at first because I kept reaching out to other places that couldn't help and didn't think this would be any different, but loved the idea of it being all online and evening hours that worked around both my work and his school schedules. So we decided to give it a try. The whole team was wonderful. Our family mentor, Christine (I believe, sorry I'm bad at names), was great at listening and offering suggestions. She was so friendly and I felt like I had known her forever. Jamil was assigned as my son's therapist. I cannot say enough positive things about him. He connected with my son, my other two kids, as well as myself. The first couple of sessions were rough because my son was really pushing back, but we stuck with it and it got easier. Before long, my son couldn't wait to share news of things happening in his day to day, new foods he tried or rewards he earned from his food chart. I'm glad we made it through the whole program and can walk away with the tips and tools we learned and will continue to use through our journey. I will say the only bad thing is having to say goodbye to everyone because they have become like family.

When my child was diagnosed with AN I delved into doing my research and found that Family Based Treatment had the most evidence that it would result in a full recovery. It was also during the height of Covid, so I was open to online therapy... something I might not have been open to prior to that time. I found that with the number of appts we had initially, being online was helpful. It is also very time consuming at first, but so important to have a team to help. I also appreciated that I didn't have to be the "go-between" and manage communication between the dietician, therapist, support team and medical doctor. They all communicated behind the scenes so I could focus on the hard work of re-feeding my child. Also, they took our insurance, the process was easy, and that was one less thing to worry about as well. This is how mental health care should be. We had an amazing therapist and the family mentor became more like a trusted friend. Don't get me wrong, it takes a lot of dedication for a family to utilize FBT, even with amazing support, BUT, my child has now been in recovery for almost 3 years and we have all learned what we need to do to keep them there, as well as what to look out for should they ever backslide. Thank you Equip! I am not sure where we would be without you.

We had a wonderful experience with Equip! Each member of our care team was knowledgeable, compassionate, and understanding. Our medication management provider found the perfect medication and dose after years of trial and error. Our nurse practitioner was so friendly, but also ordered blood work that identified an underlying autoimmune disease that no other provider thought to test for before during or after nearly two years of ED treatment at all levels and a variety of facilities. Our dietitian got us through so many fear foods and never made us feel bad about set backs. The family therapist was contact steady support, but always gently pushing all of us forward. We delayed meeting our parent peer for sometime since we were skeptical about their value and then they became one of our favorite supports in our whole journey. I don’t think the online nature would have worked until we were all ready, but once we got there it was so convenient and flexible. Thank you Equip! Although so happy to be well enough to move on, we will genuinely miss all of you.

As I've shared with the team recently, I feel that my daughter is lacking the support she needs, mainly because she went from PHP, 6 hours per day for 5 days per week, to having maybe 1.5 hours worth of conversations with providers in the last 3 weeks. My ex-wife and I are well-versed with FBT and various other treatments, having been in this fight for almost 5 years now, but the majority of the talking has been with us, with much less interaction with my daughter. It's kind of like she quit "cold turkey" on therapy, and there have been some conflicts between us that I think could have been smoothed out with more consistent therapy. If the parents need to get talked to, that's fine, but for onboarding there should be more scheduled meetings with the new people to also get the ball rolling with the patient, especially if they're an adolescent.

Equip allowed us to keep our daughter at home, surrounded by the family, friends, and teachers who were her support system while adding on the support of a counselor, peer counselor, parent counselor, nutritionist, and more. We were facing having to send her to a hospital in another state, so we are so grateful we found Equip. She went through her treatment during her senior year of high school without missing out on key experiences and challenges. She has now completed treatment and is thriving!

The experience has been life-changing for our daughter. The support, resources, and overall care has been outstanding compared to anything else we have tried. We also appreciate that we can have appointments in the comfort of our own home and work around our schedules.

I truly feel that Equip helped to save not just our daughter but in the process our whole family. We knew our daughter was sick and we knew she needed help. We had great providers locally and were using a dietician and a counselor and our pediatrician. We were all trying so hard but 6 months of trying and things just weren't getting better - they were getting worse. My husband had a job change and by a miracle Equip was finally in our network. From the very first appointment we had with the Equip the providers deep expertise in Eating Disorder Treatment shone through. Every single preson we met with completely understood what we were going through. They met us where we were and taught us so much. It took 6 months of appointments with Equip before my daughter could make it to a counseling appointment without extreme panic. Our counselor helped us stay the course. And it worked. After 13 months of treatment my daughter was sad to be leaving leaving her counselor. It was so bittersweet to be sad to be leaving the place you never wanted to be. We will forever be grateful for the compassion and the expertise that Equip brings and for saving our daughter.

I would have given Equip a five had it not been for our last few months. I will say that the teams we had were amazing and we appreciated all their support. The area where we struggled with is when our daughter was being discharged due to an "internal review" and we were never given clarity on this reason other than she had been with the program for a long time. She was finally starting to turn the corner when we were told we were being dropped or could pay out of pocket for "relapse prevention." However, she was never "recovered." I feel like if Equip can keep its focus on the patient and their recovery, this organization and the people it serves will thrive. If they are going to take more of the business end and focus on insurance companies and maintaining a steady flow of clients, these clients will be released too soon and without the proper tools to not relapse. Anorexia nervosia is not something that is "curable" in 52 weeks. I hope this factor is taken into consideration.

Equip help give us our daughter back. It took a team of amazing people that we couldn't have done it without them. What I loved about Equip is the fact that this only works if you are willing to give it all you've got as a parent or loved one of the patient. I wasn't willing to hand my daughter off to someone for treatment, I wanted to be part of the efforts, all in the safety and reassurance of our own home and within our family.

Equip was an absolute blessing in bring our thriving daughter back to an even better version of herself as she suffered from anorexia. Equips model of starting your family with a minimum of a five person qualified and trusted team from the beginning is a beautiful thing. Our team had ongoing communication together. Piecing and accessing what we as caregivers and our loved one was communicating to them as far as what we were seeing/experiencing. This allowed them to focus on the best treatment and advice specifically to our loved ones recovery. (As everyone journey is different.) I can not begin to tell you how knowledgeable, professional, attentive, supportive and compassionate our team was. I am forever grateful to each one of them. They listened, encouraged and provided continued helpful advice. In addition Equip provides additional support groups of which I highly recommend attending as many as you and your love one can. Groups such as Peer groups, Caregiver support groups, Sport and ED groups, Sibling support groups etc. Every group I attended was always a learning experience with knowledgeable and compassionate leaders. Being surrounded by others on the journey is a source of comfort as well. With our amazing team we trusted the process. As a result we have a daughter who is in strong recovery. As parents we feel so empowered as we have the tools and confidence to help prevent a relapse If the ED still sneaks in we have been equipped to be ready to send it back out. Can not recommend a better program.

Equip came along when our family was nearly at the end of our rope. We were grateful for such a responsive team. Although it became necessary to change our therapist part-way in, that transition was explained to us and my daughter was given time to make the adjustment. As our family became more healthy in our day-to-day interactions and my daughter was weight restored, we came to view the team as an extension of family. You won't be disappointed!! I gave 4 stars simply because the current model is food/weight restoration heavy. It was my feeling that my daughter needed additional counseling that may not have fallen under those umbrellas. Although as she became weight-restored and was free to talk through about other aspects of her mental health, we never felt the focus was one of underlying factors but instead about the disordered eating. It was unfortunate that we felt the need to seek outside counseling as a result when we'd already developed such a close relationship with the team.
