We got off to a rocky start, well it was a nightmare getting everything sorted. But I think things have brightened up now.

The idea of getting a reward every quater is great but it would be better if I actually received the reward. My first rewards quater ended on 9th Jan. It's the 3rd Feb and I still haven't received my carrot card. One other annoying this is, everytime I have called carrot, which was frequent near the beginning and frequent when I was enquiring about my carrot card, I have been on hold for more than 30 minutes. It would be great if more staff could be employed so customers don't have to spend 30 minutes on hold listening to the on hold message.

I had my blackbox fitted in my first car as soon as I passed my test! The blackbox isn't so bad but you do get marked down for driving late (even though the policy states no curfews) which means you receive less money in reward for good driving! Also, when other idiots on the road cause you to have to brake hard, your score goes down again! Nevertheless the insurance company were the cheapest on offer!

Only just got the policy and paid a reasonable price for my son who has just passed his test. Picked this one, over others, because there was no 'time curfew' stated in the policy and my son drives most in the evening. Bit shocked that he is getting marked down for this on the dashboard/black box when all other driving indicators are very good and seems unfair when he is actually driving pretty well. The guy turned up to fit the black box on the day he said he would and it took about 1/2 hour to do. I can't give a more detailed rating at the moment as my son has had the insurance for less than a month so far!

Setting up the insurance was straight forward. Fitting of box was carried out quickly and on time. Scores generally are quite accurate, although on one occasion I have had a 6 hour journey recorded when it should have been about 26 mins. Emailed Carrot to query this and have had no response :-( I agree with other users that too many short journeys do affect your scores. Apparently 7 short journeys within a 24 hour period affects your score. Wasn't told this when setting up my insurance. For example stopping off for petrol near home and turning off the engine will count as one short journey!! ??? I haven't yet received a card for the rewards, but am hoping that I will get one when my 1st reward period is due. It seems a bit hit and miss with other customers.

Great for the price, good customer service, however the box that was fitted seems to be giving me nothing but problems

As a first time driver this insurance was the 'cheapest' for me. (Also having no previous insurance to compare it with) The idea of the box is good however it does mean that I cant actually use my car for work which is what I bought it for as I work peak hours of 9-5 and this would mean my usage is scored lowly for no reason. The speed calculation is accurate and the smoothness sometimes. However, I would like to use my car more often and not always have to worry about my score as I believe I am a sensible driver with or without the box. If for any reason the car stalls the box isn't clever enough to detect this and so it is classed as extra usage therefore a lower score. The carrot app also doesn't exist for windows phones so I cant access my profile etc. I have contacted carrot once and the customer service was fine. I think each individual should let Carrot know the places we most often go to and not penalise us for them for example a relatives house and for driving to work at core hours. The engineer did also ruin the inside of my dashboard when installing the box which I haven't brought up with them. Otherwise, the insurance is fine still a bit steep for me now however just wait and see what happens at renewal.

phone system could be better regarding answering and waiting ie I waited 20/30 mins each time and some of your services cost more local or Freephone

Please read this review. Personally, I do recommended Carrot to young drivers and people with a lower income, but make sure you pick your policy right. Calculate the miles you need, then add an extra 1000, just for safety. I am giving Carrot a 3. I have not had a single problem with them. I had a very serious accident in my 2012 Corsa with my previous insurance company and only being 17 I struggled to find somewhere with cheap insurance. Everyone is drew into Carrot insurance as the price is so cheap, but there are some hidden charges. I am only in my first quarter and the box predicts i am going to go over 8000 miles. It's £150 per 1000 miles, which I feel is a lot of money. They say 'no time curfews' but if you drive between 11pm and 5am it does mark your score down. You can also only make 7 journeys a day and can't drive longer than an hour if you are trying to improve your score. Overall, I think Carrot is great, I like the idea of having my score whenever I want to see it and it's cheap (which is always a bonus) and you get rewarded on your driving. If you check your score on a computer you can also see how to improve which I think is great!

I think Carrot Insurance offer good/cheap cover and this is great for new drivers. I do think that having a policy in which it only covers you for a certain amount of miles is ridiculous however. Carrot should be monitoring my driving style (speed, cornering and acceleration), not how often I drive.

Good cash rewards. My only problem would be I'd like alloy wheels and carrot do not cover any modifications.

pros : cheap for young drivers, allright phone service. Good way to track your driving score. Cons: does not record some journeys, they sent somebody out but all he did was fiddle with the box and apparently it got sorted but score could not be retrieved. Second time apparently the car recorded an hour drive when i wasnt even in the car. Never got any solution or call back and didnt bother to keep ringing them back. The scores are always good at the start of the quaterly. Towards the end looks like the box judges harshly just to downgrade your score and you dont get a good amount of cash back. But maybe thats only me. The whole thing of driving slow and pissed off drivers behind me , curfew of 11pm which they say is not a curfew. Have 7 journeys and anything after that the usage is downgraded which i see as a load of rubbish. Apparently they box is computerised so it cannot be altered or wrong? Really? Isnt it man made? Never again would i go for it hopefullyy my insurance goes down. Oh yea i got a -10 at the start of my policy and 6 months after receiving 10 for all the following journeys its still at 9 and one of their guys told me not to worry i could get ut to a 10 within a month. Load of rubbish.

Generally a good insurance company to be with, cash rewards are a wicked bonus when you need that extra fiver. Another plus is that it's got a tracking device so if you ever forget where you parked it's easy to find. Downside is that sometimes I really do question the reliability of the results that determine my driver score. I don't trust that the scoring is accurate at all, some days I feel like it's really off.

Very Goood apart from the smoothness, judging on potholes, not the drivers fault more like the councils.... Also driving after 11 would not recommend this if you work at nights
