I mean I wouldn’t even leave a star for this company AVOID if your looking for insurance my insurance is being cancelled purely because I could not supply a document and also the black box is an absolute joke turn corners in 2nd gear isn’t good enough your score seems to drop like do u need to actually STOP your car and then turn the corner to not get a bad mark. Very much not happy that my insurance is being cancelled purely because of a document

Avoid at all costs. As every other review states, refund given in first 3 months and money taken back after 6!! Absolute disgrace. Cornering score completely inaccurate and often shows as “50” despite a motorway journey with very little corners and extra care taken in on every bend. DO NOT take out insurance with them. Would rather have paid up and used another service as this Olly caused stress and confusion. Very poor from coop. Will never use them again

To start with its great, my daughters rating was 98/100 and everything went well. After first review we received 1/3rd discount and thats when it started to go wrong. The car is driven 12 miles, every other day, same route. Her speed is 100, braking 98 and cornering 3. How is that possible??? It was 98 also and through no different driving variations its now 3. The discount has been removed and is now back to full price. I asked for the data behind the 3 and you have to get in touch with someone other than the broker i was speaking to. I told them to forget it, I just wont renew in September. Its definitely a con, lured in, going well and then all of a sudden they hit you with false readings.

If you're a young driver looking to insure your car with a black box, please avoid this company at all costs! There are far more reputable options out there. This is my experience - skip to the bottom to see the TL;DR. I paid for my insurance up front. In the first few months, the majority of my driving was around built up areas. The black box loved this because I was always moving at a pace so slow it would make a tortoise jealous. This meant that I had an 'excellent' score and received £120 back to my account (yay!). However, I then started driving longer distances which meant the use of motorways and A roads. To drive safely on these roads, you need to drive faster (at the speed limit) and accelerate quickly to ensure you merge at the same speed of the traffic. The black box didn't like this and absolutely nuked my score. You also have to be VERY careful not to drive a few MPH over the speed limit as this damages your score immensely. Because of this, my score reduced and whilst still being a good score it was no longer excellent. Despite still driving safely and maintaining a good score, I was fined £72 because my score deteriorated. Furthermore, they don't send you an email or any notification that you have received this fine - you have to delve into your policy documents and even then it's only titled "An update to your policy". This meant I didn't notice the fine until I saw it being charged to my account, which would have been problematic if I didn't have the funds available. You agree to allow them to make these charges when you sign up to the insurance so it would be very difficult to challenge them, and the black box technology is far from perfect. TL;DR If you anticipate that you're mostly going to be doing short drives around built up areas then this insurance will probably suffice (but I would still avoid them as a point of principle). If you plan to use your vehicle more extensively, then look elsewhere. Can't wait to switch in November - Christmas is coming early this year!

First they tried charging me as my black box got cancelled, when they told me nothing about getting charged and they lied to me! As well as I didn’t drive my vehicle for 3 days and my score was zero? How? I wasn’t driving so my score should be 100%... worst insurance out there! Wouldnt recommend!!

I agree with many of the reviews here, if "0" was an option i would most certainly pick it. I am now 6 months into my insurance plan and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. Due to my work i am constantly moving up and down the country, because of this i am expected to change the address on my insurance every time i move, now that would be okay if doing this didn't incur a £600 charge every time. Secondly, i have recently received an email stating my insurance will be cancelled within a week of receiving the email, upon ringing them i am told that my vehicle is not being kept at the location stated on my insurance plan, so i explained the situation with my work and was told i needed to change the address on my insurance for a second time in the space of six months and that i would receive an email explaining everything the same day... however, i never received that email, so i rang back only to be told that for the duration of my insurance policy my vehicle has been kept at an address i have never been to... to the point i had to actually google the address to see where it was, to my surprise it was over 200 miles from my current address... when i said this over the phone i was told that my vehicle was currently at the address 200 miles away as we spoke... again i was told emails would be sent to various different teams on their end and that i would also receive an email on the same day... as you can guess i never received that email... the customer service that is "provided" by the company i absolutely dreadful and is merely a headache waiting to happen for anyone even considering to purchase this insurance. I strongly recommend that you go elsewhere for your insurance and never even consider using the co-operative.

This would be a "0" if I could choose it! We are 6 months into my step-daughters policy. After the first 90 days, my bank account was debited with £193.93 (with no warning at all!) We are now 180 days in and received an email asking us to check the dashboard. There is only one message there dated "10 05 20", relating to the February letter/penalty!!! This message was not in the inbox in February. My step-daughter has improved all her scores, but from reading all the other reviews, looks like another penalty for us! She has many friends (young) and they do not get penalized like this. The dashboard gives conflicting scores from graphs showing a good score of 77 to a "gauge" showing a score of 45. I have driven in the car with her on many occasions and her driving is very good and responsible and does not warrant these penalties. She is a home carer and her car is essential. She has schedules to meet from her employer and it would appear now she is set up to fail. After this year is over we will NEVER insure with the Coop again!! Shocking. The black box is not about safe driving, its about bumping up the premium. Massive lesson learnt. Like a previous mum commented, my step daughter is now more nervous driving because she is so paranoid about her scores!!!! One thing I learned today, I ll be checking TrustPilot for all future insurance purchases. If CooP really wanted to help young drivers, the dashboard would be set up to encourage them by "setting an actual target to avoid a £'s fine." The dashboard is vague, vague, vague.

Damaged my vehicle and had me sign a form with out telling me what it was. They provided no way for me to view any of the documentation I was signing for. they also over charged me on a change of vehicle by £300 and then refused to accept this was their mistake. After about 5 hours of phone calls an a refundbwas appointed. DO NOT PURCHASED! AVOID AT ALL COSTES

I would not recommend using this insurance company. I took out car insurance for my son, who had recently passed his driving test. Because our circumstances changed, we had to cancel the insurance policy half way through the year. As well as having to pay a £120 cancellation fee, the Co-op added another £53 on top of the original cost of the insuranc, in relation to his black box driving scores. His scores have never fallen below 'good' and so I expected the cost of the insurance to remain the same. When I questioned how they work out their costs in comparison to the driving scores they were unable to provide me with this information, making the whole process very ambiguous. It seems to me like a licence to print money ie. the price of the policy will vary depending on your scores but we're not going to tell you how we work this information out, we'll just charge you.

I have tried to contact them today to cancel my policy but unfortunately can not do it on line or on my portal which I am not happy about at all . I have to now wait until Monday to contact them by phone to cancel my policy . I will have to pay for two additional days insurance for no reason when I want to cancel my policy today .

They never showed up to fit the black box. The black box company are impossible to get hold of. Avoid this company for your insurance needs.

If I could give this company a zero I would, paid 1200 upfront for insurance with black box, score started at 87 why not 100 they now claim she speeds constantly so I asked for a spreadsheet of all the data, what I saw shocked me,motorway is obviously 70 the spreadsheet was in KM so I used the AA and police websites to convert so 70mph is 112.654 they recorded her doing 113 yes people will argue but its still speeding even the police would only caution at 79,secondly cornering its a well known fact an old 2007 fiestas suspension is not going to be as good as a brand new car ,they have recorded one road as 40mph and again we have checked añd its 50 she was doing 46,I am taking this all the way, first discount was 204 which we have never received, the next one the penalised us 79 the other 2 nothing as her score stayed the same, please avoid this company as it stands we have till April so let's see what happens between now and then but its now got my daughter so anxious she rarely now drives, lots of paperwork to sort out for the complaint but I know it's going to be worth it

Insured my daughter in August 2019 , she’s always had a driving score of 81 which is excellent and after 3 month we were rewarded with money back off our premium which we had paid in full, recently her driving score fell 3 points to 78 which is in the dashboard still very good, however after the next 3 month review the co op took £91 back out of our account as her score had fell slightly, the fact they can take this amount of money with only a very small change in score and still been classed as very good on the dashboard is quite distressing, my point being her driving is still very good and yet we are still being penalised, there was also very poor communication as on the dashboard inbox there were no messages or any flags to say there was new correspondence , overall very disappointed, we will not be using the co op young drivers insurance again, also we are going to look into this matter further by contacting a financial ombudsman

I will never use coop for insurance again. Insurance was cancelled due to v5 document being in the wrong name, I offered to get this corrected but wasn’t accepted. Trying to get a senior person to talk to was impossible when I called them, and promised calls were not received with excuses they had the wrong number. Still waiting to be refunded after 2 weeks and no money to buy a new policy !

was insured for a year and a half and I do not recommend. I completely understand the idea of a black box and safe driving, but co op increased my monthly payments because my score went down literally a couple points but was still well in the ‘good’ bracket. I found it incredibly stressful that a separate finance company managed the payments instead of co op itself and I was constantly receiving confusing emails that made me unclear of what was happening. Getting through to anyone on the phone takes forever and is also very stressful, and I often got charged extra just for the phonecall. A curfew on a black box is also something that needs to be a thing of the past as it’s ridiculous to assume someone old enough to drive a car doesn’t have responsibilities that require driving late sometimes. I really do not recommend this insurance - especially as a student as my time with co op only made me frustrated and stressed

Insured my car with young drivers so my son could drive it as well, the box was fitted and since then the blow heater keeps switching off!! Cancelled insurance after 3 weeks as the wanted to increase by £1300 because no claims can only be used on one vehicle? Switched and went to get the smart box taken out by local garage to find out they had hard wired the box and tracker to the egnition and wiring of the car so if it comes out the car won’t start, they’ve damaged the wiring of my car, everything keeps shutting down, I’m soooooo angry!! DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE ITS A RIP OFF SCAM, wish I’d taken note of reviews before I signed up, I’ve lost my £500 upfront cost as installation of box, cancellation fee etc taken out! Will be sending them a bill for damage to wiring if car though!!!

I took this policy out at the test centre so my son could drive straight away. Everything seemed ok, blackbox got installed etc. Then my son began getting issues with his "scores". He would be penalised for things such as having to do an emergency brake if a police car needed to pass in a compromising situation etc so they started charging him fees of £85. I regularly drive with my son and he drives so carefully and with a lot of attention, he used to be so confident but now all of this from CO-Operative has left him feeling like he doesn't want to use the car anymore. I think it's a disgrace, my son has dashcam evidence of his driving which also shows his driving. DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!

I uploaded my NCB in time, but four days later we received a letter telling me it hadn't been accepted as. the letter head wasn't showing on the screen shot - you'd think all I had to do was re-send it - a simple mistake, but instead they told me I now had to pay £800 extra for the insurance, on top of the £1,400 we were already paying. When I called them up, I was told their internal comms had now told them they could only accept NCB certificates that were uploaded within 7 days , even though our letter said we had 14 days. It went from bad to worse - we cancelled the insurance after repeated miscommunications from their side. You just don't want to be dealing with this sort of set up if you did have an accident.
