“I have ordered a Iphone on the 16th of March. On the 18th it was ready for collection. Everyday since the promised day of delivery, which was, the 23rd of March I have been calling. The only response I receive from online support....failed collection and the case has been ESCALATED!!
This is the worst service I have ever encountered and the support team just passing the buck! How does one get hold of the CEO of such a company?”
“Makro is so unprofessional, I ordered a calculator online, looking at my app, the order update didn't change, I called them to find out what was going on only to be told that my order wasn't even processed, the supplier and the courier wasn't showing. Few hours later I received an SMS stating that my order was canceled, no apology no explanation. When I contacted them again, I was told that they couldn't get my item on from the supplier. Imagine the inconvenience, being told your order is canceled on the delivery day.”

I received an SMS at 8:00 a.m. confirming delivery of my fridge. At 8:30 a.m., I called the driver to ask for an update and was told he would arrive in “less than 30 minutes.” By 9:00 a.m., with no further communication, I called again—only to be informed that he was still in Olifantsfontein, Johannesburg, at least an hour away from my location.
This level of poor planning and communication is unacceptable. In a market where delivery services like Checkers Sixty60 and Takealot operate efficiently and transparently, Makro is clearly falling far behind. If this is the standard of service, it is difficult to see how they expect to remain competitive.”

“On 01 November 2025, I bought a foldable wardrobe online, for R456.
This morning (10 days later) they cancelled my order and raised the price of the item to R1 200.
No communication in between, just a discrete refund.
Section 23 of the Consumer Protection Act prohibits this conduct.
I incurred bank charges in processing the purchase. I also bought items I did not need, in order to qualify for free delivery.
Does the refund consider all this? You guessed it.... NO.
If this isn't unethical, I don't know what is.”
“I bought a UPS trolley from Makro in May 2025. Three months later, it stopped functioning properly. I then began the process to try and return it to Makro.
After a bit of a struggle, they collected it and then returned it almost a month later, only to find that it is still faulty.
I contacted them again and after several emails, they collected the item and then said they could not refund it because the plug had been changed. That's a poor excuse for not attending to the matter.
I'm still waiting for feedback from Makro online as to how they plan to replace this faulty item.
It has been a 3-month battle, and it's still not resolved.”
“Am not happy with the service I experienced with you guys. I ordered grocery basics with you Makro online on the 4th September . To my surprise on the 5th my order was cancelled due to our of stock which I fail to understand till this day. Fine I waited for my refund till today yes it says between 2-10 days. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the service I received today. When I attempted to return the Hot Belt Power, I was assisted by a staff member who claimed to be a manager, Dianna/Dinah, who refused to show her name tag. After waiting 20 minutes, she called another manager, Rechael, who explained the return policy due to hygiene reasons.
However, the poor handling of the situation by the first manager was unacceptable. She advised me to sell the item to a family member or find another use for it, which was unhelpful and unprofessional.
This experience marks a significant departure from the excellent service I've come to expect from Makro over my 15+ years of shopping with them. I hope you will take my feedback seriously and address the issues with staff training and customer care.
