“They are unable to provide me with online banking because they have faulty IT platforms and yet they will not let me change provider without paying ridiculously high exit fees (much higher than other banks!)
If they were adequate, they would not have to charge such high exit fees because people would not want to leave them!
As it stands, they get away with being very inefficient at everything and nobody bothers to go through the hassle of trying to change providers!
They keep pretending to try to resolve my issue by calling me during working hours to talk about it and go over the exact same things again and again. Trying out the exact same process that I have already tried online. They do this so that I do not escalate.
If everything else is the same, try out another bank instead. you will save yourself a lot of distress and time

I am not the review writing type of person, but I find it my duty to warn as much people as possible.
My father passed away in February, leaving behind a saving account of £3000.
As I live abroad, I contacted NATWEST by phone. They sent me a pile of documents (of which half of the documents was incomprehensible for a foreigner) I had to complete and send them back by recorded mail (or I could pop in to one of their branches, haha).
I did everything I had to, I provided my identity as well as my father's, I handed in the death certificate, my identity was verified by my bank, the government, the mayor of my home town AND an independent official notary who verified and notified everything ... I did everything right ... But evertime they replied me in a letter, telling me "We're sorry, but could you provide such and so otherwise we can't release the money". This has been going on for 6 months now, and I'm running out of time because soon the term will end.
My Belgian bank told me these are illegal practices and so did 2 befriended attorneys, but they're all afraid Natwest won't release the money because they know that taking legal action would cost me more than the value of the account.
This is mere thievery ... Shame on NATWEST!”

On April 3rd of this year I notified NatWest of my mother's passing.
I got a letter saying what was required. I sent in all the documents. (BER0312009)
(BTW, since then, I have I sent all the documents requested, on FIVE separate further occasions.)
After about six weeks, I got another letter (apparently no one at the bank has email… why?) stating I need to get my passport identification signed, which i did. It wasn't easy. I live on a small Gulf Island on the west coast of Canada. It took me two ferries and an entire day to reach my bank and have them do what was needed.
Their Cora AI bot is a nightmare, but the one time the connection held, I was informed all the correct documents had been received, and the account would be closed by the bereavements team as soon as possible. But, oh dear, it was another lie.
Five weeks later I heard my proof of address was out of date. (Of course it was, I had sent it MONTHS earlier by that point.)
So I sent proof of addresses from the phone company, the cable company, the insurance company, AND the utilities.
Yesterday I got another letter. Now, apparently, the proof of address also needs to be signed and stamped. There was no mention of this in the initial letter of requirements. And, as I said, the person on Cora said everything was okay, EIGHT weeks ago.
I am at my wits' end. NatWest’s treatment of bereaved seniors is a new moral low — even by big bank standards.”
